Chapter 4: How They Met...Detention Flashback
It was an early November day, on a Friday afternoon, and Rose was spending it in the basement of her school, with company including September, Minnette, Winter, Jerrimy, Noah, Maze, and Luke. She did not yet know Finley or Hawkins.
The school year had barely just begun. You'd think it would impossible to already be in such high trouble as detention, no warnings. Trouble is easy to find with mischievous friends like September and Minnette. Winter always acted the scolding mother, who told them not to do it; they just didn't listen, like most offspring. Rose always helped with the execution, but was not typically the leader of the work, that was Tema or Minny's job, it alternated, whoever thought of the better idea. They liked the competition.
Jerrimy hadn't known them long, and Noah was so kind, not interested in trouble, he stayed away from Minnette's friends as much as possible, though it was hard with them seeming to be everywhere he looked. Noah liked Winter, thought she most beautiful and kind, but nothing came of it. She soon met Finley and they fell in love.
Maze and Luke, well that's an interesting tale, but it begins in order, which would be Winter.
Winter is a sweet girl, nicest of the group. She received the first detention, the only different being it was accidental. Winter is an excellent student, does her work on time, even early, often. She actually enjoys school. After texting, us about her detention, going ballistic, it seemed only fair to get one so that she wouldn't be alone in agony, though September rarely sees punishment as agony. That's what frustrates our principal so much. Hours of detention, days of suspension, near expulsion, and she just gives a smile and whispers up a new prank.
While doing a lab experiment, poor Winter had a little accident. Her teacher, who loathes her, though for no reason, was convinced that Winter poured the dangerous chemicals on her lab partner on purpose. This clearly would never purposefully occur, not with Winter. It just isn't in her character. Besides, her partner was our new friend Jerrimy Pink. He wasn't even mad that the liquid destroyed his clothes, he was quite in joy it didn't burn his skin off, but the teacher handed Winter a detention slip. Feeling bad for being the reason for Winter's detention, Jerrimy joined us without a detention slip.
Next, Minnette and Rose intertwine. Rose had to get some acrylic paint from Minnette's art class, and while in there, she sprayed some in Minny's hair. She was obviously joking around, the two girls are the best of friends, but Minny laughed too loudly, and her scary Umbridge-look-alike teacher gave Rose a detention slip while saying, "Who the fuck are you?" quite impolitely.
Then, Minnette learned a very important lesson: Art teachers do NOT appreciate it when students paint "inappropriate pictures' during class. The class found this incident to be rather hilarious; though her teacher, on the other hand, was so embarrassed she sent Minnette to the principal's office straight away, where she received her detention slip from Mr. Harrison himself.
Rose didn't understand the big deal. It was merely an abstract drawing of a beautiful mermaid, with rainbow hair. The problem was that the mermaid was not wearing a top. Her hair covered her boobs for the most part, so like, who cares?
Anyways, the next day, Minnette was transferred into a new art class, the same one Rose was in, which Minny did not mind since Rose's teacher is the best art teachers of the school. Looks like someone's "punishment" was really more of a reward.
Moving on to September, our dear rebel, September, thought it would be a great idea to ditch class, in front of the substitute teaching, during her history class, following attendance.
How did this happen, you ask?
Well, let's see. Directly after her teacher called her name for attendance she chirped a "here" in reply, and then proceeded to open the window next to her, and jump out. Yeah, she was on the second floor. In her luck she didn't land on concrete, it was grass. After rolling in her fall on the grass, dirtying her clothes, she took off running while laughing like the badass she thinks she is.
They all found it quite an amusement. The school even had a chubby security guard run out, and chase her, but her mile long legs were no match for him, and in a few minutes, he was already panting on the ground, munching a jelly doughnut. While chasing her with a megaphone screaming for her to stop, she has even taken it farther, by shouting, "I have escaped hell!"
The group all agrees Tema is always the most creative student at earning detentions. She constantly gets into trouble from stunts, and pranks, a lot of them. Examples of September's other detentions have been:
· drawing dicks on boards
· calling teachers muggle
· falling out of chairs by balancing on two legs
· cutting a student's hair when they fell asleep
· stole a chair from the principal's office and rode in it all day long bringing it to each class
· pushing a kid she didn't like down the stairs
· food fights
· playing porn on the loud speaker in the office
· kissing students randomly (girls and guys)
· swearing and when told to stop told teachers to plug their ears with tampons
· stealing a teachers wedding ring calling it precious and refusing to give it back saying "my precious" (#LOTR)
· setting curtains on fire with bunson burners (they weren't doing a lab)
· making Heathers references like "fuck me gently with a chainsaw"
· falling asleep during tests
· doing a strip tease while singing "it's getting hot in here"
· and claimed to be Jesus reborn and hit students with BiblesNoah came because he'd have nobody else to hang out with, and like mentioned before, Jerrimy went because he felt bad that Winter got a detention.
Luke and Tyler were sent for fighting and swearing. Was it ever mentioned they hated each other at first? Luke took a swing at Maze and crack went his nose. As well, he was swearing loudly. Maze responded by spitting on Luke's face, and kicking him in the balls multiple times while shouting "Fuck you." Then the two ended up on the floor rolling around, both wanting to be on top of the other to take more punches and hits to the others body.
After that Friday evening, together in room 221 – the music room – with the greatest teacher of all time, Miss Brookes, we became best friends, stuck together for life like glue. Rose knew from that day forwards, those were the people she loved most in the world.
It's miraculous that we even got Luke and Maze to like each other. They beat each other up pretty good, Luke ended up with a black and blue eye and a cut on his lip, while Maze's nose bled and his arms bruised.
Miss Brookes got us playing instruments and the music just brought us together.
