Gerard had a surprise for his boyfriend. He had packed a picnic, complete with fresh lemonade, chips, watermelon, sandwiches, the like. He and Frank climbed into the car and Gerard drove to the park. He made Frank tie a blindfold around his eyes and walked with his boyfriend's arm in one hand, and the picnic basket in the other.
"Can I look yet?" said Frank.
"Almost," replied Gerard, unfolding the blanket and setting the basket down. "Now you can." He helped Frank to unwrap the blindfold from around his eyes, and as soon as his eyes adjusted to the bright light, he threw his arms around his boyfriend.
"I'm assuming you like it?" laughed Gerard.
"It's amazing," said Frank into his shoulder. Gerard stepped back.
"Shall we dine?" Frank grinned.
"So we shall." They sat and helped themselves to lunch. They held hands and kissed several times.
After one kiss, they heard a gruff voice from above them.
"Hey fags, wanna take your disgusting live porn show somewhere else?" Gerard caught his boyfriend's eye.
"No, sir. We just wanted to enjoy ourselves," he said. "Are we disrupting your pleasant day at the park?"
"Yeah, you are."
"Alright, I guess you ought to take your kids and leave if you don't like this."
"I ain't got any fucking kids. It's you two that should leave, not me."
"Why?" asked Frank. "It's not our fault we have ignorant motherfuckers hanging around us."
"Plus, why are you at a park alone if you don't have kids?" Gerard added before the man could come up with a retort. "Is it just so you can bash other people for having a better love life than you, even if it is with the same sex?" The man looked conflicted as he attempted to think up a smartass comment. Failing, he simply said,
"You two are fucking disgusting. Every one of your kind. I hate you." And promptly stormed away from the park. Gerard glanced at his boyfriend, whose expression was clouded. He kissed his forehead lightly.
"Sorry for that," he said.
"It's not your fault, don't worry," Frank replied, sipping at the thermos of lemonade. Gerard took his hands in his own.
"People fucking suck, don't they?"
"Tell me about it." They finished the picnic in silence. After they were done, they lay down together, hand in hand. Gerard played with Frank's hair, eventually creating a thin braid in the back without his noticing. It wasn't until he had done so that he realized that Frank was asleep. He smiled and closed his eyes. Nothing could disrupt this.
