Gerard hadn't been feeling quite himself for the few days after the fair incident. Though his bruises were slowly fading back into his normal skin tone, his nose was still sore to the touch and his voice sounded as if he was sick. Frank's face was returning eventually to normal, too, but his black eye was still swollen and his lip had a deep cut.
That would definitely leave a scar.
Gerard glanced at Frank, who was eating a bowl of stale cereal. He bent over the bowl, making a loud slurping sound as he tried to avoid the cut part of his lip. It was adorable.
Gerard smiled to himself as he watched his boyfriend eat the rest of his cereal.
How could something so normal and day-to-day seeming be so intriguing to him? Frank wiped his face with the back of his hand and leaned back. He stood up and wondered over to the couch, where he lay down sideways and rested his head in Gerard's lap. Gerard slipped his fingers through the soft strands of hair.
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
"Could be worse, could be better. Are you okay?" Frank turned onto his back.
"Not bad. Got a broken nose, but that's about it." Frank laughed softly.
"I noticed." Pulled himself into a sitting position on the couch and faced Gerard directly with his legs crossed. "Come here," he said and pulled Gerard's head forward by his hair. He kissed the tip of his nose and stroked the bridge. "Does it feel better now?"
"The pain is gone completely. You're a miracle worker," Gerard said, and leaned into his boyfriend's lips. His fingers found their way to Frank's hair and he played with it discreetly. He noticed that it was very, very soft.
Frank pushed him onto his back and lay on top of him, his head buried in his  boyfriend's chest. Gerard rested his arms across Frank's back and felt the peaceful rise and fall from his breathing.
He thought his boyfriend was asleep when he pushed himself up to meet Gerard's eyes. He brought their mouths together, and they were suddenly floating serenely in a calm ocean together. Gerard wrapped his arms around Frank's head and neck and forced his face down harder on his own. It hurt his broken nose, but it didn't matter. Nothing mattered. Nothing but this. Their eyes were closed and their mouths moved in sync with each other. Their legs were intertwined, Frank's feet reaching the center of Gerard's calves. Their hands were in each other's hair, Gerard running one down Frank's arms and touching each individual tattoo. He knew them by heart, like a map. He loved this man. He loved him more than anything. He loved him more than life herself. Frank's lips traveled down his neck, to his collar bones. He expected him to take his shirt off, but he didn't. He just stayed there, his hands in his boyfriend's hair, his head on his chest again.
Gerard stroked his head lightly. He knew their faces weren't healed yet. But damn, it felt like it.
