I held my baby nephew Jack on my hip. My younger twin neohew and niece Jeremy and Julianna ran around in circles, chasing each other. When Jeremy caught Julianna, he screamed,"TAG, YOU'RE IT!" Jack started crying.
"Jeremy!" I scolded."What did I say about screaming?"
"That it scares Jack," he mumbled, sounding more annoyed than apologetic.
"Why don't you and Julianna watch TV while I try to calm your cousin down?"
"No thanks!" He yelled, running off."Catch me if you can, Julianna!"
"I'm gonna get you!" She yelled, chasing after him. Jack started crying more.
"Fucking hell," I cursed. I sat down on the sofa with Jack and bounced him on my knee while I called Patrick.
He picked up after the first ring. "Hey, Y/N! What's up?"
"Do you not hear the crying baby?! I need you to come to my sister's house right now!"
"Okay, I'll be over in a few minutes!"
Five minutes later, Patrick rang the doorbell. I picked up Jack again and opened the door. "Thank Eltom John you're here! I need to to take Jack and calm him down. He might need a diaper change. Supplies are in the little sack hanging off his playpen. He also might need a bottle. The can of formula and his bottles are in the pantry. I have to go find Julianna and Jeremy. Whatever you do, if you're going to put him down, put him in the playpen. I can't have him rolling off the sofa and killing himself."
I dashed upstairs to find Julianna and Jeremy. They were having a pillow fight in their parent's bedroom. "Alright, that's enough!" I yelled. "Both of you, sit down! Now!"
They put down the pillows and sat on the floor. "I want the both of you to listen to me, because I ain't repeatin' myself. The two of you know that I have to pay extra attention to Jack because he's baby, and he can't do anything to take care of himself. If he spits up, I have to do something immediately so he doesn't choke and die. I can't leave him unattented on the sofa because he could roll off and kill himself. The two of you need to stay downstairs and keep quiet, or so help me-"
"If it's not safe to leave Jack by himself, where is he?"
"I asked Uncle Patrick to come over and help me out because you guys were misbehaving and I needed someone to watch over Jack Jack for a few minutes. Now, both of you need to come downstairs, sit down, watch TV, or read a book. No running around, and don't leave my sight unless one of you is going to the bathroom. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, Aunt Y/N," they mumbled.
"Good. Before we go downstairs, put those pillows back where you found them."
They placed them on the bed and trudged dowstairs after me. Jeremy and Julianna sat on the floor in front of the TV and watched Sesame Street. Jack was in the playpen, still making unhappy sounds every so often. I picked him up and went over to Patrick, who was in the kitchen filling a bottle up for Jack. "You used water, not milk, right?"
"Yes. And I rinsed the bottle out before putting anything in it."
"Sweet. Grab a towel, would you?"
"Sure."
Patrick followed me into the livingroom. I sat down on the sofa. He did, too. "Did he need a diaper change?"
"Yeah, he had a poopy diaper. Didn't you, Jack Jack?" Patrick cooed. "C'mere, little guy." He took Jack from me and fed him.
"I'm going to make Jer and Jul dinner, okay?"
