We pulled onto the highway and got to the stretch where the girls were attacked. There was a fairly steep slope to the right of the highway and we pulled the car up to the side of the road. We popped one of the tires once we were stopped and lied in wait. I stood there next to the car and occasionally bent down like I was trying to fix the tire.
"Can I help you with that?" A man asked from behind me. "I was just out for a hike and saw you stuck up here. I figured you could use some help."
"Sure." I replied. He bent down and started to mess with the tire and I thought maybe we had the wrong guy. That's when he stood up and grabbed my wrist. "Dean!" I shouted. They came running out. This made the guy angry. He tightened his grip possibly breaking my wrist in the process. I fell to the ground. He was about to fully attack me when Dean went up behind him and tackled him to the ground.
"Go!" Dean shouted. I ran to where they had been hiding and barely forced myself to watch. As Dean got up to get his blade that had been thrown from his hand, the werewolf swiped him with his claws. He screamed in pain. Sam was the only one not injured yet but the werewolf was making his way over to Sam. He flung him into the car which resulted in a definite bruise. Thinking quickly, Sam shot him in the chest, killing it. He rushed to Dean.
"Hey. Hey. Stay with me, Dean."
"I'm awake. It just hurts. I can tell its bleeding a lot." He said with a groan as he tried to get up. I felt so bad. I never should have suggested this plan. Sam helped him up and held a rag on his back. He got Dean into the passengers seat then came over to me. I was hiding behind the guardrail not too far from the car.
"He'll be ok. We'll get him back to the hotel and get him stitched up. The werewolf didn't scratch as deep as I thought." He told me gently.
"I'm sorry, Sam. I never should have suggested this." I commented as I climbed over the guardrail. I didn't want anyone to get hurt.
"Hey, It's ok. We killed the werewolf and no one is dead." I nodded and got into the car. I didn't say a word and Dean didn't look too happy. We got back to the hotel and Dean sat in a chair from the desk so we could put the stitches in. "How do you wanna do this, Dean? You know we don't have any painkillers or sedatives or anything." Sam asked.
"Just do it." He stated simply.
"Dean, can I do it? I know how, and it's my fault anyways." I asked.
"Sure." He replied. Sam gave me the stuff to stitch him up with and I got to work. It was difficult due to my wrist probably being broken. I hoped no one noticed because I didn't want to make them take me to a hospital. Especially with how Dean was acting. I did it as quickly as possible but tried to be gentle. I put some antibacterial stuff and some gauze on it and he was all stitched up. The entire time, I couldn't help but look at what I had caused. His back was covered in scars from various things and what I did was adding several more large ones. He got hurt trying to save me. It wasn't supposed to go that way. Once I was done, he pulled his shirt down.
"Hey. I'm gonna go get us some food. You wanna come, Anna?" Sam asked.
"Sure." I replied. We walked out to the car and got in. Farther down the road, he pulled over. "Why are you pulling over?" I asked.
"Let me see your wrist." He commanded. I did.
"We're definitely going to the hospital. Why didn't you say anything?" He questioned.
"Dean's already mad. I didn't want to make it worse." I stated sadly.
"He'll get over it. I know you weren't trying to get anyone hurt. He knows that too. He's just upset it was him. As much as you don't want to, call Dean. Let him know we're going to the hospital. We'll get food on the way back." He told me.
"Can't you call him?" I asked.
"I'm gonna be driving. Just call him." Sam instructed. I nodded and we drove off.
"Hello?" He asked once he picked up.
"Dean, we're going to the hospital first. The werewolf broke my wrist. I've been hiding it because you're already mad and I didn't want to make it worse." I told him.
"Jeez, Anna. You should have just said so. I'm not so mad to where you can't talk to me. Just get your wrist taken care of and I'll see you when you get back with food." He stated.
"Ok. See you then." I replied and hung up. I was surprised he wasn't more mad, but at the same time, Dean was always caring and loving.
"See, it's ok." Sam told me gently. I nodded and we got to the hospital. I was taken back for x-rays which determined I did really break my wrist. We were there for over an hour as they gave me a waterproof cast. Sam and I were waiting for them to tell me I was good to go when he spoke up. "Anna, I'm serious, don't feel bad about what happened. It's not your fault."
"Don't lie, Sam. It's totally my fault. It was my idea."
"You saved who knows how many people with this idea. So we got a little hurt, that's nothing compared to saving lives, Anna. It's not your fault regardless. Dean and I should have come out sooner." He consoled. I just nodded. He let it go and the doctor came back in. We were cleared to go so we left for the restaurant.
"Sam, I'm seriously sorry. I'll stay out of the way on hunts from now on. No more helping." I added in the car.
"Anna, you don't have to stop helping us. If Dean lets you, you can help. You aren't in the way and you don't need to apologize. It's ok." He stated.
"Ok." I replied and the rest of the ride was in silence. We picked up the food then headed back.
