'In out. In out. In out. Remember to breathe.' I coached myself to keep breathing as fear consumed me. I had been crouched behind the large bin for a minute or two waiting for a psychotic guy with a chainsaw to jump out of every shadow to kill me. But so far, nothing. And that's when I heard it....through the booming of thunder along with the flashing of light I could hear the shuffling of feet. It was coming from a few shelves over, still in the toy section, as if the intruder was scoping out all the rows in search for me.
Plans started to form in my head, some more ridiculous than others.
1. Go farther into the beauty section to hide out, or run for the exit
'No, i'm not sure where he is and I don't wanna risk getting caught.'
2. Run to him and attack him before he can see me coming
'No, If I did that I really would be the stupid girl from the movies.'
3. Pretend to be another robber who happen to be robbing the same place, befriend the robber because of our similar interests, then either play along until I can get to safety or behead him when he least expects it.
'I don't even have to explain why that plan won't work'
I heard the shuffling come closer as it neared the beauty section.
10 feet........5 feet.....2 feet...there he was. He had passed to the right of my bin and hadn't seen me due to the fact I was awesome... or maybe it was the fact I was enveloped in shadows, it's hard to say.
I couldn't see him very well through the darkness but he wasn't what I was expecting. I was preparing to see a burly silhouette of a giant. Possibly with scars all over its arms and a large weapon, perhaps an axe or club, in his hands. Instead the figure was kinda tall, with a slim body and almost lanky arms and legs. But he did have a weapon, in his hands was a ........umm... what is that... is that ...a.....Barbie box??
'What type of robber brings a barbie box to rob a store? He must be a real shitty robber.' I thought to myself in confusion. But the confusion didn't settle in. I knew I would have to act now.
My legs tensed, ready to pounce.
'I hope this goes well' was the last thing I thought before I charged.
