BOOM!!!

The sound of thunder startled me awake and I shot up frightened. When I saw the dim lights on the outside of the tent flicker I scrambled up and quickly dove to the end of the tent to grab one of the many flashlights I had gathered hours before.

"Huh..." Romar groaned. "Graham, what's going on? Your sitting on my leg." He stated as he sat up. I felt something shift from under me and I slid off his leg.

"Oops, sorry." I apologized. I quickly flicked on two or three of the flashlights and relaxed as the lights lit up the interior of the tent.

"Did the storm wake you?" He asked as he rubbed his eyes.

"Yeah, the thunder is really loud-" BOOM!! A large clap of thunder cut me off and both Romar and I looked up towards the sky. "I rest my case." I said when the thunder ended.

"Something tells me I wont be able to sleep with this storm going on."Romar stated as he stretched out across the large tent.

"Same." I agreed, laying down on my back.

We sat in silence for the next few minutes but was anything but quiet. The down pour of rain created a loud roar that echoed throughout the store, drowning out any more sound. Every minute or so lightning shot across the sky leaving thunder to shake the store in loud clashes and grumbles. Romar and I could see out the top of the tent and we watched the lightning through the skylight.

The few lights we had on throughout the store flickered as the storm progressed and I held my breath every time. Having the power out would be bad for us.

"Are you ok?" Romar asked, his head tilted to the side to look at me. "You look tense."

I turned my head to look back at him and gave a smile. "Yeah, Im fine."

"Are you afraid of storms?"He asked.

"Oh no." I gave a nervous laugh. "I'm not afraid of storms." He looked at me quizzically, like he wasn't sure if he should push any further. I guess he decided he'd leave it alone for now because he didn't say anymore about it.

"What's your favorite color?" He asked out of the blue.

"Blue." I said without hesitation. "Yours?"

"Blue too." He answered. "Ok, your turn."

"What's with the questions?" I asked.

"Just thought that we should get to know each other a little better. Nothing else to do." He said shrugging.

"Ok-Uh.. Ok I got it. Whats your favorite animal?" I asked him.

"Hmmm.. I've always liked deer." He said, as he hugged a pillow to his chest in front of him.

"Really?"

"Yeah, they're so graceful and yet strong."

"Ok, I can see that." I agreed.

"What about you?" He asked.

"FOXES! They're so fluffy and cute, and have you seen their fluffy swishy tails!!!" I started to ramble a bit about how cute and adorable they were but stopped when another boom of thunder cut me off.

"That sounds pretty close." He said, referring to the storm.

"Yeah." I agreed. We quietly sat and I watched the ceiling to see when the next lightning was. When I saw the next flash of lightning light up the sky I started to count the seconds that went by.

"One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. Three Mississippi. Four Mississippi-" BOOMCLASH!!! The thunder cut me off at 4 which told me that the lightning was about 4 miles away.
