Two Months later:
I hopped out of the car and hauled my bag over my shoulder. I glanced around quickly and then made my way around the corner of the building. I ducked behind some bushed and glanced into the window in front of me. 'Nope, not this one'. I moved to the next one and looked again. 'Nope'. I did this a few more times, careful not to be seen, before finding what I was looking for.
"Psst!" I said, giving a little knock on the window. Romar, who was on the other side of the glass looked and his eyes widened. He looked around quickly to make sure no one saw before cracking the window.
"What are you doing here?" He whispered to me through the crack. He turned away to look around his classroom to make sure no one noticed him talking to a window. I had come up to his school as a surprise. Romar went to the all boys private school nearby, which explained how I never saw him at my public school.
"I'm here to bust you out!" I whispered excitedly.
"How did you even find me?" he asked confused.
"That would be me, I told her where we were." Tom, Romar's other friend, spoke up from next to him. He leaned over to look at me and gave me a small wave. "Hey Graham!"
"Hi Tom!" I waved back happily. I had been introduced to Tom about a month before and had gotten along immediately. he was an adorable little dork who loved spewing facts. The other boys in class were starting to realize something was happening out of the window and they started to stir.
"Um, you guys should finish this conversation before the teacher gets back in here." Tom said glancing nervously at the door.
"I agree." I said, "We should finish it in my car on the way out of this dreadful soul-sucking school! Everyone is wearing vests! It's so horrible!" I said dramatically. Romar gave a nervous look around and said,
"I can't just leave!"
"It's easier than you think! Use your legs and walk! Or actually....can you fit your spaghetti body through this window?" I joked.
At that moment his teacher, a stern looking man, walked into the classroom and set his books down. I ducked down and pressed my body against the wall of the building hoping not to be seen. I took a deep breath and listened to what was happening inside.
I heard the students shift and Romar stand up suddenly.
"Romar, "The teacher said, "Where are you going? Class is just starting."
"Uhhhhhhhhh....." Romar paused before saying, "My dog just died." A series of muffled laughter went through the room because the other guys in the room knew I was right outside trying to sneak him out. "Bye." He said quickly as he left the room, not giving his teacher a moment to even protest. I had to press my hand over my own mouth to keep from bursting out laughing. I scooted my body away from the open window and snuck away back to the parking lot. I met Romar by a side door near the parking lot and we took off running to my car.
"YOUR DOG DIED!!!" I burst out laughing. "IS THAT THE BEST YOU COULD DO?!"
"I PANICKED!!!" He yelled back laughing.
We hopped in my car and took off down the road. After a few minutes of rocking out to music we arrived at the lake. We got out and while I grabbed snacks from the back Romar pulled off his vest and tie to get comfortable. Romar grabbed my hand and walked me to the lake front where we sat down to relax. I handed him his Box of Froot Loops and I opened my can of Pringles.
"You excited for graduation?" I asked while staring out at the water.
"I'm even more excited for college." He said chuckling. "That place isn't going to even know what hit it!"
"YASSS!" I laughed out. "The dynamic duo wreaking havoc! We are gonna be the coolest cats on campus!"
"We are gonna be the dorkiest weirdos on campus more like it. You are definitely going to get us kicked out!" Romar said rolling his eyes jokingly.
"Then so be it." I joked back.
We spent the evening hanging out by the water and climbing trees. I thought about how much our lives has changed since that day. The store owner wasn't happy with us camping out and making a mess but was at least grateful we had cleaned up. He even made a copy of the store video tapes and gave it to us. He also gave us the bathroom stall door, also not hyped about the graffiti. Another gift he gave Romar was a pink slip, that gift wasn't as exciting as the others, but thats ok. Romar has already gotten an internship at the history museum. He had also talked to his parents and they have tried hard to give him space and helped him to apply to a different college for the track he wants to take. He encouraged me to apply as well and for some reason they let my dumbass in. I was excited for the future and what was to come. When the sun started to set we sat back down by the lake and I leaned up against his arm. He turned his heard towards me and gave me a kiss on the cheek, wrapping his arm around me.
"You ready?"
"For anything."
