Seth's Point Of View
After the third shot went off, I ran to Sky. I grabbed his hand and dragged him to the back wall, where we are supposed to go during a lockdown. The intercom went off as everyone started following me.
"We are under lockdown, this is not a drill. Teachers and stu—" There was another gunshot from the direction of the office. I sat down and Sky just stood there. He wasn't making any movements, he just stared in shock. I pulled him down onto my lap as he curled onto my chest. I wrapped my hands around him and held him close. He placed his head on my shoulder and could feel it become wet.
"It's going to be okay... it's going to be okay...." I kept whispering in his ear, trying to convince him. To be completely honest... I was trying to convince myself too. Mr. Hunt had already locked the door and covered the windows.
"Everyone, I know this is a scary situation, but everything will be fine. We just have to stay quiet." Mr. Hunt told us. Now, we just all sat in silence. Everyone had gotten into their little friend groups for comfort, and we were all riding it out. Violet and Lily started to cry, silently, as Cristina tried to comfort them. The kids have been texting their parents and other friends, while Mr. Hunt kept an eye on the door.
After the fourth shot, we didn't hear much. We heard a couple people running, but no more shots. 'Maybe they are gone....' As if right on cue, we heard a scream and a shot. Sky started to sob more into my shoulder. I saw Mr. Hunt walk over to some of the speakers and began to unplug them. He was going to try and barricade the doors. I picked Sky up, and placed him on the ground. He didn't let go of my shirt.
"Please Seth... Don't leave me... Please...." He whispered to me. I didn't want to leave him, but if I wanted to keep him safe, I had to.
"Sky, I have to keep you safe, I'll be right over there." He let go and nodded, but he was still afraid. He brought his knees to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. Sky has been through so much, and now this is just going to make him feel worse. I teared up a little as I went to Mr. Hunt. He had only moved a small speaker in front of the door.
"Mr. Hunt, you locked the door right?" I asked him as he stopped and looked at me.
"Yes, of course it's locked. Someone would have to open it on this side for them to come in. Unless they break it down, but that's what I'm trying to fix." I nodded as I helped him pick up a speaker. We took it over and placed it next to the other one. Anyone could still get it if they broke the door down. We started to walk back to another larger one. I helped Mr. Hunt start to unplug it, but this was more confusing than the smaller ones.
"Is Sky okay? He doesn't look too good..." Mr. Hunt said, looking at Sky. 'Well, no, none of us are. There is a shooter in our school.' We watched as Sky just stared at his phone, looking sick. He looked around, but he seemed as if he was going to faint.
"I... I don't know.... He already had a lot on his plate, and now this?" I told him. We put our focus on getting the damn wires out of the wall.
"Why is this so damn confusing!" I said a little too loudly. We heard the door, and we looked at it in horror. It was open, but started to close.
Someone left.
I quickly looked to see Sky was not sitting there anymore. I ran over to Violet and them.
"Where is Sky?!" They looked from the door to me.
"He said he was going to help you and Mr. Hunt!" Lily said. My heart started racing. 'Why did he just leave!?' I looked to see Sky's phone on the ground. It was on. I looked at it and it had another message from his father.
