After the meeting with Rem I had went home and eaten and slept till the new day dawned, it was best to forget my meeting with the Arlond heir. He was trouble.
Today I was on a mission to find any leads on the location of Ritsuka's mother. It was already 5 in the afternoon and I had done little but terrorise rogue vampires. I was having little luck with any of them.
"Tell me where she is. I'm getting very tired of talking" I growled to the vampire I had trapped against the wall. He clawed at my arms but it didn't affect my grip. I healed just as quickly as he made new ones.
"Your with his son, aren't you. He told us you'd come looking" the vampire wheezed. His glowing eyes were the colour of dried blood and his black hair hung in greasy tendrils. Rogues were much less refined than a normal vampire, they were disgusting in every way, shape and form.
"Who is this man you speak of? Who told you?" I pressed, my grip tightening around his oesophagus. The vampire didn't change his attitude, in fact he seemed to get off on it.
"You know nothing, and you won't get anything else out of me" he growled savagely. I sighed, this was going no where, he wasn't going to talk.
summoning a volley of flames, I engulfed the useless creature in blue heat. The fire consumed the vampire as I let go. It crumbled to the ground screaming before bursting into a pile of ash.
"Another dead end" was my only words on the matter. I glanced down at my clothes to see the clothing marred with grime and blood. I was running out of clothes to wear, and if it kept going at this rate I would have to go buy more. Waving my hand, I used my powers to change my outfit. The grimy jeans and t-shirt was replaced with a long pale blue dress. I was done hunting for the day, anymore and I might just loss my composure. I might as well go and see Lindo and get up to date on the situation. I was tired of dead end's, for once it old be nice to focus on something other than hunting.Teleporting outside the house, I gazed at the comforting building, it's vibrant garden wearing away at the grey world surrounding it. This place was an oasis among the harsh reality of the true world. It was my sanctuary, but sadly I was unable to enter. Estranged from the place I considered home, it was a painful feeling. Loitering on the border I waited for Lindo. I could see him inside speaking with Ritsuka, he looked frustrated. What happened? Looking at the house I noticed the padlock on the window was broken; she went out again. It was getting dark, and from the looks of it they had both had a long day. I wish Ritsuka's mother would appear and make everything better. Before she was kidnapped life was perfect. Pulling out my phone, I texted Lindo, the message was sent and I waited for him to come out. Inside I could here a door being slammed; I'm going to guess Ritsuka's went to her room.
Overhead the Sky was fading from soft pink to navy, with the stars slowly beginning to appear. I loved the stars, we didn't have them in the underworld, they were a gift of the human realm, something beautifully unique.
"Hey, sorry to keep you waiting" Lindo's voice called as he opened the gate. I smiled faintly, feeling heat blossom at the sound of his voice. Lindo's presence alone was enough to make me feel like a love struck fool.
"I wasn't waiting long. Plus it's not like I've got anything else to do" I replied. He looked tired his blue eyes seeming unusually dull. He was running himself into the ground trying to protect Ritsuka. It was understandable, she knew Lindo's secret now, it having been revealed rather unceremoniously from what I was told. He never wanted her to find out his job, or supernatural heritage. She still didn't know about my heritage though, which was a god send. It would have seemed a bit hypocritical if we told her to stay away from devils, if she knew I was one."you seriously need to take a break Lindo, you're going to end up killing yourself at this rate" I scolded, taking his hand I tugged him into a walk. We headed down the street, the road quiet besides from the tapping of feet.
"I can't help it, Lily" Lindo replies, his voice weary as his tone glided over my ears. I really wish he would calm down, I was here to help him. Honestly, it irritated me how nonchalant he was about his state. I needed to take his mind off of the current state of things.
"Okay, you know what! I'm not going to let you stress yourself like this" I ordered. Holding tightly onto his hand I did used my powers, aiming to teleport us to my hotel apartment. When we appeared in the room I let go of his hand.
The apartment was alright, but I was just using it as a base of operations whilst I was banned from the house. We stood in the cream coloured lounge room, the plushy couch pressed against the wall staring at the TV.
"Lily, where are we"
" The hotel; you, my dear, need to relax" I explained, as I strolled around the room. I was still getting used to the room, it was horribly plain when you compared it to home, a place filled with personal artefacts that gave a familiar feeling of warmth.
"Lily, I need to be at home to keep an eye on Ritsuka" Lindo exclaimed. I looked at him, my eyes meeting his. It was frustrating how uptight he had become, where was my carefree, optimistic Lindo? I was his partner, for heavens sake, it was my job to help him when he needed it. Walking over to him, I wrapped my arms around his neck, pressing myself flush against his body. His eyes widened and a blush appeared on his cheeks, he was flustered. I don't know why, it wasn't like I hadn't done this before. We'd lived together for ages, he should be used to this by now.
"Li..Lily, wh..what are you d..doing?" He stuttered.
"Lindo, relax. Just pretend things are like they were in London; before we got dragged back into things we cannot hope to control" I murmured as I softly kissed his neck. Lindo seemed to get nervous whenever I did this sort of thing, hence the reason we had never taken the 'big step' in our relationship. He reacted by leaning his head down and bringing my lips to his, his hand lifting my chin so his lips could press against his. His lips were soft and yielding, his scent engulfing my senses as our mouths danced. Finally, he was letting go; forgetting about the hard fate we shared in battling unseen forces. Right now, the only forces we cared about, were the one's between us. I pulled back, allowing cool air to fill my lungs as I slowly kissed along his jaw. My heart was beating erratically, sending heat throughout my entire body.
Letting my hands slide down to the hem of his shirt, I sought to remove the shirt. He was perfect, in every sense of the word, and he was mine to love.
"Lily, we can't" he groaned softly. I ignored that remark, I could tell he was holding back. His body pressed against mine and his hands settled down on my waist. He was letting go. I glanced up to see his eyes dropping softly, a familiar glow in the iris. I pulled back.
"You don't have to hold back Lindo" I said. He shook his head, his eyes meeting mine. He was trying to fight his instincts.
"I can't Lily, I don't want to." He stated. That comment, hit me like a bucket of cold water. Stepping back, I looked to the ground, embarrassment heating my cheeks. I was being an idiot, he clearly didn't want to do anything.
"I'm..I'm sorry Lindo" unable to meet his gaze, I failed for words.
"I didn't mean it like that Lily. It's just.....so much is happening right now and I don't want to be distracted" He exclaimed, realising how I was taking this.
"It's alright Lindo. I was being silly" I said. Looking him in the eye I tried to assure him I wasn't upset; I was but he couldn't know that.
"Let's get you back home, so Ritsuka doesn't try another spontaneous escape" I joked. A small smile met his lips as he straighten his shirt.
"Yeah, about that. I'm enrolling us in the school, so we can keep an eye on her" he said. I froze, that meant I was going to have to go to school, the same school where four Devils were residing.
"Lindo, you're kidding, right?" I said. He shook his head, he had a quizzical look on his face. Obviously confused by my reluctance to attend school.
"Great, freaking great. You realise I'm going to run into those Devils again" I groaned. He laughed.
"I'll be there with you, if they try anything I'll protect you" He teased. I smiled back at him but felt an unease settle in my stomach. Taking his arm I teleported us outside the house, he opened the gate and went into the barrier. I said farewell quickly as I teleported away. My stomach was churning inside of me, sending discomfort throughout my muscles. I was scared of going back, I didn't want to see the other Devils. They were a reminder, of what I was, and what I was running from.
"This can only end in trouble" I mutter to myself.
