Chapter 16-Nathan

Sorry for the short chapter last time, I tried to make this one longer- Jovie

Nathan's POV

Kayla runs inside and I'm left outside on the porch. We've both lost someone dear to us, me and Kayla. Judging by what happened earlier today, Eva has too.

Toby went to her to comfort her, Kayla had warned him not to, but he went in anyway. When he came back out he was holding his stomach and he looked super sad. The poor guy.

Toby is too quiet to say anything about his family, so I have no idea on anything in his past.

Toby knows about Ann, we were a team when..... tears come to my eyes.

Flashback

"Ann, please!!" I yell her her frail body. I can barely look at her.

"My mom Nathan, I finally found her. She wants me to contact her, I have to do this."

"Your too sick, can't you wait." I plead.

"Fine, I'll wait another week. The doctors said I was improving, And that I can be out of here in a week anyway." She says and I smile.

I walk out the door because the doctors come in. I wait patiently at the door.

The doctors hand her a slip of paper, and her eyes water. I see her mouth the words through the sound proof door;

"I'm gonna die."

I eventually just end up walking inside. Events from today replay in my mind and I settle in one that still puzzled me.

Flashback to earlier that day:

"This exactly why dad left you!!" Eva's mom yells at Eva. I see Kayla grab a gun.

I run over to Kayla.

"Whoa, you can't shoot her!" I whisper to her and she rolls her eyes.

"It won't kill her, just knock her out." She says and takes aim.

"You are a disgrace!! Your killed her, you killed her...your secrets out. Your a murderer." Eva starts sobbing.

"I didn't mean to, I don't even know....I didn't want to hurt anyone" I see Eva take out a gun.

I look over at Kayla, she's zoned out. I shake her.

"You better shoot her mom, before Eva kills her!!" I say and Kayla aims at her mom again. I look back at Eva.

"I'm so sorry.....I...will get out of your life.." She says then she points the gun at her self and her hand brushes the trigger.

"Goodbye.."

"Eva!!" Kayla, Toby, and me yell. A gun goes off and Eva falls to the floor. I look over at Kayla and she's holding her gun, that was aimed at Eva. She shot Eva, let's hope before she killed herself.

Toby runs over to Eva, no bullet holes, but a tranquilizer mark is clear on her skin. We all breath out a sigh of relief.

I walk into the room I'm sharing with Toby and lay down, after a while I drift to sleep.

When I awake it's morning and I go downstairs for breakfast. Toby is there still clutching his stomach.

I start making myself toast.

"Toby, how did it feel when Eva almost killed herself." I ask gently.

"Like I was the one being killed."

"You have to tell her."

"I tried last night, it....didn't work out."

"Why do you like her man?"

"Do you believe in love at first sight."

"Ew no."

"Me neither. I like her because she brings a smile to my face with her awkwardness, and....she told me what happened."
