Chapter 6: Distant Surfaces

I drove cautiously trying to avoid me from falling asleep at the wheel amongst the Zion National Park's canyons trail.
I drove even further then stopped the car out of curiosity not believing my eyes after waking Destiny.

"Hmm what what Clarence what is-" I covered her mouth shut with my hand pointing ahead down the road.

As I leaded her out the truck to the back of the truck opening the trunk putting on my lucky vest.

"Oh my God Clarence what the hell was that thing"!?! she replied with nothing but fear in her eyes.

As I grabbed hold of her by her shoulders then I spoke " Listen to me I want you to take this assault rifle and stay close to me and watch my back Ok can you do that for me?!?" I yelled to her in a whispering voice.

I truly saw nothing but fear and confusion in her eyes as she nodded removing my hand from her mouth grabbing the gun.

"That's what I'm talking about now remember watch my back at all times no matter what happens" I said to her getting a slap in my face as a response.

I walked further to the mystery figure holding a perfect aim at the figure as it stopped and looked at me seeming small.

"Who are you state your identity in the next thirty seconds or I will shoot you if you do you will live to see another day your time starts now!!"

I got closer and closer to the figure as it stood up on twos seeming bigger than what I previously considered and expected.

"You have 15 seconds remaining state who you are now!!" I shouted at it and it did the unexpected and coughed up its organs while still moving closer to me.

I started taking steps back then took steps forward firing at it once making it freeze.

"Yeah yeah u didn't like that now did u huh?" I turned to Destiny for confirmation as she tapped me nervously saying my name slowly pointing ahead of me as I have her a baffled look looking in the direction of her finger.

I saw what I couldn't believe it was a eight foot tall zombie, as it roared and shrieked at us with a loud echo. As it sprinted towards us not even getting phased by the three shots I took at it, taking them as if it was nothing.

"Oh come on why won't u die u ugly son of a bitch?!?" I said while being yelled by destiny to give up and get back in the truck.

I hurried in to my truck after Destiny. I tried to start the engine over and over but it wouldn't turn over.

"Come on come on be useful for once!!" as it turned over with me searching for the zombie as well as destiny.

"Umm where'd it go Destiny?" as it jumped down in front of the truck snarling at us as I put the truck in gear and drove right into it making it's head pop off its shoulder.

I watched the body slide off the hood of my Cadillac while turning my head to Destiny.

"Dude that newscast that you showed me a week ago say anything about God damn zombies?"

No no it didn't i think i would have remembered something like that Clarence " she said while gasping to catch her breath.

I restarted the car heading up the trail into the mountains while playing my favorite Drake album "nothing was the same" laying back in my seat listening to "Come Thru".

I turned it down saying "let's see what else Utah has in store for us shall we we may be even more surprised to know what else is going on in America" I said while driving further into the park.
