Chapter Four

John an Karen had happily welcomed Shauna and Michelle into their home. Though Jared had been welcoming, Michelewhad noticed the way that his nose had wrinkled when they had walked into the house. As though he had smelt something awful.

After Shauna and Michelle had gotten settled in, the five of them had gathered in the dining room to eat. As the others had talked while they ate, Michelle had remained quiet as she had picked at her food. Michelle had been a normal fifteen year old girl at home around her parents. But being in a strange place with people, she had become quiet and reserved.

Jared's POV

Arriving at Sam's from patrol, I had seen my Dad's truck in the drive. I had briefly wondered what was going on. Before I could reach Sam's porch, he and my Dad had walked outside. As Sam motioned for me to wait, I leaned against Dad's truck.

As Sam and my Dad faced me, I knew that something was up. Dad told me that his sister Shauna and her daughter Michelle was coming for a visit. Before I could ask if they knew our secret, Sam spoke up and told me that they didn't know. And that we couldn't tell them. According to my Dad, they were only staying a few weeks. I nodded my head in acknowledgement of the quiet command.

After nodding my head to Sam, I left with my Dad for home.

Mom had the house spotless when Dad and I arrived. And had dinner on the stove cooking.

As we heard the car pull up out front, I followed my parents outside. As the doors had opened, I caught the scent of vampire coming from the car. My body had shook slightly as my nostrils flared.

I had watched my Aunt and cousin closely. Neither one displayed any signs of being a leech. Which meant that they had been in close contact with one. Knowing that my Aunt knew about our legends, I understand the look of shock and horror on her face. She knows that the cold ones are real.
