Five years later...
It's been five long years from the day I finished my MBBS. But I must say, those four & half years were truly enchanted...they were the golden days of my life! Days, that changed my life...gave a new meaning to it!
Nayana is a Gynaecologist now (even though she hated Gynae in our MBBS days). She had a love marriage. Her husband is a general surgeon. She and her husband were from different castes and their families opposed their match. And they actually eloped and got married! We had never imagined Nayana had such guts! Now they own a big nursing home.
Sufee is now a Radiologist and married to a businessman in Dubai. We met her on her wedding day three years back. Now we are in touch only on a social networking site. And her profile pic displays a cute young baby!
Avinash and Shabana, unlike Nayana, did not have to elope to get married, inspite of being from different religions. We attended their marriage, which was a grand event, with rituals from both religions. Avinash is doing MD Medicine, while Shabana has done diploma in Skin, and she has taken off from work to take care of their one year old baby girl.
Sneha is now a Psychiatrist. She has joined some mission, and has taken oath not to get married. She is in touch with me as we both work in the same institute.
During internship, a surgery resident proposed to Sasha. After a whirlwind courtship, they got married immediately after our internship, and then got divorced within a year. Now I have lost all contact with her.
We don't know why or how, Vibha and Abhinav parted ways after internship (Though they dated a lot throughout internship). Vibha got married to an engineer, who was her childhood classmate (and supposedly had a crush on her since then), while Abhinav is giving USMLE exam, planning to settle abroad.
Savita married Prasad! We never had an idea if there was anything brewing between them. Of course, they say that there was nothing then. That 'something' began to develop between them when both were doing their residency in Pathology in the same institute. Now they have set up their own Pathology lab.
Vivek took a totally different course. After MBBS, he studied very hard for IAS exams, cleared them and is now a collector. We always underestimated him! And now he is married to a very rich, hotshot girl who is some minister's daughter. I heard that Miss Weirdo was diagnosed with 'schizophrenia', a psychiatric illness, during internship. That, ofcourse explained her weirdness. But I felt bad we used to make fun of her. She needed timely psychiatric help!
Coming back to me, I had a hard time explaining to Amey what exactly went wrong between us. Especially, as I could not tell him the exact reason. I felt very guilty as he was truly heart broken. But we were truly not destined to be together. It was just not meant to be. I tried to maintain pure platonic friendship with him. However, under those circumstances, it was difficult. We gradually lost contact. I too did not persist in staying in touch. I wanted him to forget me and move ahead in life.
Today, Arun and I are happily married. We work as anaesthetists in a corporate hospital in Mumbai. We will be celebrating our third wedding anniversary soon, and in a few months, we are ready to welcome a new member in our family!!
