Kat's pov

We walked forward slowly the smell of dry blood following us. I run aged through my satchel and pulled out a flashlight, I wasn't stupid, I was prepared to get lost. It flashed on brightly illuminating the forest slightly. "Where's my flashlight?" Ness asked. I smiled and pulled a laser pointer from satchel tossing it to her. She glared at me for a moment and then turned it on. She pointed it at my head. "I guess there's snipers in this forest." I said looking up at the red dot on my forest. "Yep, headshot." She said pretending to fire a sniper. We laughed lightly...but my light began to flicker. I hit it lightly on my palm only to have it go out completely. It should do that, it runs on kinetic power not batteries... Something was wrong.

Ness scanned the area with the pointer, it worked somewhat letting us know if there was something there or not. I desperately tried to get the flashlight to turn on. Ness pointed the laser in front of us, a red dot appeared to just float on darkness. There was something or someone there that was not there before. "Kat..." She whispered "what."I growled. She simply pointed. I followed her finger to the dot. I turned towards it my eyes wide my heart racing. I turned my flashlight towards it even if it was no use. Then it flashed on. There was nothing there... My heart beat became hurried and my breathing sped, "we have to get out of here... NOW!" I hissed. We both turned to go the other way. I dropped my flashlight in shock. The light stayed to illuminate the terrifying sight like a spotlight. Ness squealed slightly happily but soon began to panic.

It was an old teared piece of paper. Stuck to the rough bark of a tall leafless tree. In black scribbling writing it read..."you've met a terrible fate haven't you?" Ness whispered. Below the wording was a bunch of ruff lines forming together an almost abstract drawing? Than the flashlight flickered out and all went dark, the sounds of the once peaceful forest turning dark putting us on edge.

Ness spun around looking into the darkness hopefully I heard her gasp. "Ness?" I questioned. "Look, look." She whispered breathlessly probably pointing at something. "Look where?" I asked spinning around. "There" she said I could hear her footsteps they were heading towards... "How could we have missed that...it surely wasn't here before?" I mumbled to myself. "Come on" she whispered already far away. "There is no ... Way in .... I'm going in that creepy ... Mansion." I yelled back turning around and walking hastily away, I wasn't going to stick around to see what else lurked in the forsaken place. I grabbed my flashlight and grumbled lowly as I tried to get it to work after a few rough hits and swears later it flashed on, flickering slightly. I sighed and began to walk aimlessly in the opposite direction of the huge mansion. Not even a full minute later I was beginning to regret my decision as the light from my flashlight illuminated a chilling note stuck hurriedly to the rough bark of a tree.

The flashlight flickered slightly as my grip on it tightened to the point the plastic began to crack. I walked up to it and ripped it off the bark. "Wrong path." I read a slight edge to my voice. I crumpled the note and tossed it as far as I could into the trees. I continued walking when something hit my head lightly. I turned around the see the same crumpled note at my feet. I scanned the darkness my mind consumed by panic. I heard a slight rustle and that was all I needed to know I need to leave... NOW.

I turned and ran as far as I could every time I stopped to breathe another note would be there staring at me... "Where are you going? Where is your friend? Stop running. You can't run forever. You know it's useless." The notes read each time I ran farther and faster every time I saw one. Finally I could no longer run my throat was burning and dry and my legs threatened to give out beneath me. I looked up from my hunched over position. A note. It wasn't there before. "IT WASN'T!" I screamed. "Accept your fate, child" I looked up to see the mansion I had run away from I ran away from it. I was ready to scream out in frustration when I felt a hand on my shoulder....
