Down by the river where they let their children wander
Next to the oak tree where the poets would ponder
Through the forest's weather worn path
Where the students would practice science and math
Right by small patch of bright and blooming flowers
Where lovers would talk for hours and hours
Across from the old house the children claimed to be haunted
Those who dared to go in had their bravery flaunted
It was once very nice, the water clear and clean
But it's now full of bottles and ripped out pages of magazines
And the pondering tree, once tall and proud
Is now part of a home for those ignorant and loud
Now the special forest path is nowhere in sight
For the forest had been cut down in the dead of the night
Those students that once learned all day and at night, got rest
Now spend all their time on standardized tests
And the lovers that talked over romantic moonlit dinners
Now search for true love on Match and Tinder
Instead of the creepy house, we now now have cash and checks
As the old house was torn down for an apartment complex
