"As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once." ~ John Green, The Fault In Our Stars
Hoseok couldn't bear it. The pain in his chest prevented his sleep for three nights straight. He couldn't even get out of bed to eat, instead the dancer stayed locked in their room. Either crying or vacantly staring at the ceiling in feeble attempts to pin point where it all went wrong for them. They had been happy right? Taehyung seemed so happy when he'd proposed to propose... Or was he acting..? He'd never been able to understand the younger's mind. It worked so differently than his. Maybe that's why Taehyung had dumped him. Things were different in the singers mind, and Hoseok must've been the delusional one. He was too busy gushing over how perfect they were together to realize that Tae was miserable right? It had to somehow be his fault. He went wrong somehow.. But no matter what he told himself, nothing seemed to fit. He couldn't pin point it! He felt like his sanity slipping with each hour, the lack of food and sleep didn't help either. But he was determined to punish himself for whatever mistakes he made. Because for Taehyung to be that cruel, he surely must've done something much worse.
Finally on the fourth day, the bedroom door was opened forcefully to reveal Namjoon with a tray of food "Hoseok.." The dancer groaned, mumbling "I thought I locked the door..." Namjoon travelled to his bedside, setting the tray down on a nearby table "you did lock it. I picked it. We're worried about you.." He chuckled darkly, forcing himself to sit up in order to talk to he leader "just leave me alone. I deserve to rot in here" Namjoon sighed, a frown playing across his features "I know you're hurting. We are to, but I know you loved him... I just don't know why he left.." He shrugged, pulling his knees to his chest to hug his legs "he left because of me. He hates me, I'm irritating.." Namjoon sighed, rubbing the back of his neck tiredly "that doesn't make any sense. He loves you right?" He shrugged, more tears forming in his eyes. You'd think after three days of crying non stop the tears would stop?! Namjoon pulled the dancer into a sudden hug mumbling "I'm sorry. None of this is fair, especially to you.. He's wrong. You're not irritating, we all love you Hobi. He's just got it twisted.." He slowly returned the hug, biting his lip to silence a sob and he relished in the unexpected company.
The two sat like that for several minutes in silence, Namjoon just hoping he could ease the dancers burden. Even if it was minuscule. But finally, he pulled away "eat something alright? If you don't then Jin hyung will come in here and force feed you. I'm not kidding" the comment made him smile a tiny bit, even if was only the mere corners of his mouth twitching upwards "ok.. Thanks" Namjoon nodded, grinning as he left the room.
~meanwhile with Taehyung~
.
His eyes remained vacantly glued to the television playing some useless cartoon, as the nurse walked in. She checked his vital signs with a kind smile "is there anything I can get for you Mr. Kim?" His gaze never even faltered to the girl, numbly replying "no" as he thought sadly 'you can get the magical cure for cancer. That'd be nice' once the nurse was gone, the deafening silence crept back in, save for the cartoon sounds. He shut his eyes, raising a trembling hand up to his head. Biting down on his quivering lip when his palm met the freshly shaved scalp. He jerked his hand away harshly, gritting his teeth and shutting his eyes tightly 'damn it, this isn't fair!!'
The door clicked open, and in a flash he'd jerked his hand back to his side and opened his eyes to see his mother walk in with Ji Soo close on her heels. He forced a sad broken smile, waving "hey Ji Soo, I didn't know you were coming by today" the little girl nodding, rushing to his side to hand him a new manga "I wanted to surprise you oppa. Here, since you're probably bored" It didn't take much for his forced smile to melt into a small content one at the sweet gesture "thank you, I'll read it later when I'm bored. How was school?" She shrugged cutely, making his smile inch a little higher at the pout in her voice as she whined "I had to sit with a girl that's mean to me today.. She's the worst oppa!" Taehyung giggled weakly at the statement, pulling her up to sit on the beds edge "it'll get better. Life's full of good stuff, you've just gotta look hard enough and appreciate the little things. Maybe try being overly nice to her? Kill her with kindness" he broke out into his signature grin, making her smile as well. Her little smile faltered for a moment however as she reached up to touch his now bald head "it'll grow back out oppa.." He swallowed thickly, eyes tearing up a little at the thought of not living long enough for that to happen but he lied for her sake "I'm sure it will. You should get home for dinner, you know how your mother gets" she giggled, hopping down "I guess so. I wish I could stay here with you more, I know how lonely hospitals can be.." He shrugged, patting her head "I'll be alright. It gives me plenty of time to think, besides, they're sending me home this weekend" her eyes widened slightly at the implications, it was the same thing they'd done to her sister. She died within the month, they sent her home to die. Taehyung forced a smile as he realized what she was thinking "I'm gonna do treatments there and just come here every week or so for check ups. I'm not dying yet kiddo" she sighed, relief evident in her voice "thank goodness. You'll tell me if you are right? Not lie to me like sis did?" He nodded, forcing a smile "promise. Now go home your mom will be worried!" And with that she ran out of the room.
