Jack didn't tell Mark everything about that night at the party, and Mark damn well knew he was hiding something. He knew his friend wasn't going to give in, which he hoped would happen, especially after Mark suggested that they go to the cliff. That didn't even suffice, Jack had refused to give in. This left Mark with only one option: ask someone that was at the party.
No, he wasn't going to hunt down the girl with blonde hair that had a crop top and shorts in the cold, he was going to find his friends, Matt or Ryan. The clear option was Matt, since he was first to find him, then Ryan tagging along. However, Ryan was there to see the majority of the events that occurred; he would work just fine.
Mark, clutching his book in his arms with determination, strolled on over to Matt and Ryan's dorm. The boy thought about what he was going to say on his way there, along the lines of 'hey, you want to go out somewhere?' He had been contemplating if he should get his hair dyed a different color, he could easily take one of them, or both of them, along with him.
A few sharp knocks on a wooden door startled the being in there, hearing a crunch then a loud stomp before someone popped in the doorway. Matt, wearing a grey t-shirt. His lanky figure was barely able to grab the shirt, only being tight near his shoulders.
"Hey, dude? What's got you crashing here?" He beckoned his blue-haired friend in, strategically hopping around to avoid empty pizza boxes and soda bottles. These was quite a number of them, probably a result of Ryan inviting over his friends, that being Matt.
"Just wanted to talk," Mark shoved his hands in the pockets of his blue sweatshirt, "to you." That seemed to perk Matt, him looking up from the pizza box he was trying to shove into a far too small trash can.
"Okay, what about?" The blonde asked, going back to stomping the poor box into the garbage.
"The...party? At Felix's." He tottered on his feet, swaying around while taking in Matt's disheveled dorm. He once again looked up at Mark, this time with his eyebrows raised. Tossing a soda bottle into the trash, he walked up to his friend, wiping his hands together.
"What about it? Did something happen?" The boy looked confused as ever, some worry lacing his features.
"No, nothing too major. It's actually about...Jack." Mark looked down while biting his lip, a small bit ashamed that he had come all this way to ask a ignorant question about his best friend.
"Then why don't you ask him, ya doof?"
"Well, uh, it's more than that," Mark continued, wiping his sweaty palms on the inside of his pockets, "I feel like he left something out about that night, because believe me, I asked him," Mark chuckled at himself, feeling more ridiculous now than ever. "He said that he doesn't know why Felix hates him, but I beg to differ. You don't just beat someone up without feeling some sort of anger," Matt nodded along with him, understanding what he was getting at.
"So, you're asking me if I know anything about those two?"
"Because, you didn't drink that night. You always drink if alcohol is handed your way. Why not this time?" Mark paused, realization dawning upon him, "Because you knew something bad was going to happen. Didn't you?" Slipping his hands from his sweatshirt, he crossed his arms across his chest.
"What?! You think that I knew that something was going to happen? I'm no fucking psychic!" Matt defended, throwing his arms up in the air.
"I never said that! I was just wondering if you knew anything!" Mark's voice was gradually raising, getting upset with his friend.
"Okay, fine! Fine!" Matt gave in with a heavy sigh, "I had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. You know, when your whole body refuses to be happy and you just feel like you're under constant threat?"
"Hyper-vigilance." Mark mumbled, lowering his head down.
"Hyper-what? The blonde's voice had softened, taking a step closer to his friend.
"Hyper-vigilance," he repeated, "the constant feeling of being under threat. It's called hyper-vigilance."
"I can see you've been doing your studies. Now, scoot, before I pop a cap in your ass." The two laughed at his joke, Mark turning away to the door.
"Mark?" Matt's outburst of Mark's name made his turn around, hand resting on the doorknob. "You sure you're okay?"
"Yeah. I'm fine." He gave his friend a weak smile before slipping out of the door, making his way back to a much cleaner dorm.
