I slid my phone shut and put it on my nightstand. I knew my face looked grim by Olivia's worried face.

"Alex, what's wrong? Who was it?" She asked.

"Nevermind who it was, grab my baseball bat and hide," I said, going to the kitchen and getting the sharpest knife I could find. The doorbell rang, and I sprinted back to my room.

"Olivia, promise me that no matter what happens, you'll always remember that I love you and I'll never leave your side," I said hurriedly.

"I promise," she said in a scared tone. I hugged her tight and kissed her, then ran out of the room.

(Olivia's P.O.V.)

Alex ran out of the room and I shut the door. I sat there in silence, bat in hand, ready to wield it if I had too. Listening through the door, I heard Alex open the door and let someone in. Alex said she's not here. Who was she referring to? Was she talking about me? I heard a man yell and I knew who it was instantly: John. My mom's boyfriend. I heard a loud thud on the floor; I could only guess Alex had tackled him.

(Alex's P.O.V.)

I opened the door to see John, Olivia's mom's boyfriend. I invited him inside and shut tthe door.

"Where's Olivia?" He asked quietly.

"She's not here," I said flatly.

I made a mistake in stealing a glance down the hall. He started to walk down the hall and pull a 9mm out. I ran and tackled him to the floor before he could get any closer to my room. I pulled my knife out and tried to get up, but her pulled me back down and took my knife. I started to thrash about but his grip on my ankle was too good. The gun fell out of his hand when I tackled him, but my knife was closer to him. He grabbed it, and right as he thrust it into my stomach, I kicked the gun, making it fire. The cold sensation of steel entering my body was agonizing. I screamed, and that's when my bedroom door flew open.

(Olivia's P.O.V.)

I heard foot steps and braced myself. I heard another loud thud, Alex shouting, and a gunshot. I heard a scream, and I could only wonder what had happened. I remembered back to fourth grade when I met Alex. I was the new kid, and I was really nervous. I saw Alex, and I knew I was in love with her. I sat down next to her, and she smiled at me. My heart melted, and she extended her hand. I shook it, and she introduced herself.

"Hi, I'm Alex," she said. Her voice was amazing, angelic even.

"I'm Olivia," I replied. We hit it off, and every day since then, I fell even harder for her because she was so amazing.

I left my flashback, and a tear ran down my face. I wiped it away, gathered myself, and opened the door. Alex was lying on the floor, a knife in her stomach. I was mortified by the sight, afrid she was going to die. My body became flushed with anger, and I went after John. I hit him in the head before he could do anything to me. I dropped the bat on his back and went to the hall closet. I grabbed a towel out and ran back to Alex.

"I need to get this out, okay?" I asked tenderly.

"Do what you need to," Alex said weakly.

I pulled out the knife slowly and carefully. She gasped and slammed her fist onto the floor. I laid the knife down and put the towel over Alex's bleeding stomach. Her hands were stained with her own blood; I brushed the hair back off her face and looked at her. She had a look on her face I'd never seen before. It was one of pain, and bravery. I looked at her lovingly, and smiled. I ran to her room and grabbed the phone and dialed 911.

"Hello, what's your emergency?" The girl on the other end asked.

"Yes, my girlfriend's just been stabbed in the stomach. We need an ambulance and cop, now," I said urgently.

"Alright, they're on the way," the girl said.

"Thank you," I said, hanging up.

I went back to Alex and got on my knees. She looked at me, a tear in her eye. She took my hand in hers, and kissed it.

"Thank you," she whispered.

"For what?" I asked. "I didn't save your life, you saved mine."

"After Austin and I broke up, my heart felt like a puzzle with a missing piece. I made myself suffer for days after you came out to me, until I realized tht you're my missing piece. I knew I had to be with you, or my heart would never be whole again," she said, a tear running down the side of her face. A tear escaped my eye, and Alex wiped it away, pulling my face to hers. We kissed, and I felt more connected to her than I ever had before. I pulled away when I heard a knock at the door.
