13: As friends

October 25, Tuesday, Halloween, 9:15 am, Mr. Makarov and Elfman's gym class

Lucy's POV
I have decided, to leave Natsu out of my business. He was badly injured when he saved me from Lisanna.
I can't have him get hurt because of me. I just can't.

He got hurt for you. He loves you. You love him. Just date already.

No! I've already decided to leave him out of it!

Get with each other already before it's too late!

I. Will. Not! Besides, I've lost my interest in him, so there's no point in dating.

And it's already too late.

I really am glad that he came for me. But, I think distancing myself from him would be good for him.

I can't help but wonder... Did he ever have any feelings for me? Did he ever truly care for me, or was it all just pity?

Questions filled up my head as I headed out of the change room.
We were playing ghost hunters today. Actually, we don't have any lessons today. We're just doing Halloween themed things instead of learning. Levy said that it was a school tradition to not learn during an occasion if it's on a school day. Even birthdays. She said the whole school prepares for the occasion, so we get to celebrate. We're not allowed to wear costumes though unless you paid a dollar.
We're also having a Halloween dance after lunch, but only after you get your report card.
You can either pay 2 dollars to go to the dance or you can wear a costume and get in for free.
I've decided to wear a costume.

Levy and I decided to be matching, so she was the princess and I was the knight in shining armor. Yukino was a knight too, but she's too *erm* old, to go to high school.

Erza laughed when she heard about the idea, and said that it would be pretty cool to put up an act too.
So for the whole day, I shall act as her knight.

"Now, where's the knight?" Natsu creepily says. Natsu ang Gray were the ghost busters.
So far, Levy, Cana, and Mira were caught. So it's just me, Juvia, Gajeel, Jellal, and Erza.

We picked pretty good spots to hide in, but there were times where almost got caught.

"Gotcha." Natsu whispers as he hugs me from behind.

I squealed and froze while Natsu laughed.
Idiot.

I sighed as I walked over to the bench with the other captured ghosts.

"Oh no! My knight has been caught!" Levy yells while giggling.

"I have failed you, my princess." I bow at Levy.

"Would you two cut that out already?" Cana says as she drinks.

Gajeel walked over to the bench menacingly.
"Damn Dragneel." He mutters.

"So Natsu got you?" Levy asks sarcasticly.

Gajeel didn't answer, he just glared at her. Levy wasn't fazed at all though.

"That's not gonna work with me!" Levy giggles as she sits next to him.

Is she... Blushing? I find it hard to believe that Levy of all people would have a crush on Gajeel.

12:00 pm, Cafeteria

"Luce... Whatcha reading?" Natsu asks annoyingly.

"Nightningale; Curse of the golden flame." I say coldly.

Natsu pulled the book out of my hands and looked at me sincerely.

"H-Hey! Give that ba-" I was interrupted by our eye contact.

"What's wrong?" He asks.

"Nothing. I'm fine." I answer, reaching for my book.

"Liar, you're being distant again. What's going on with you? Is it about Lisanna?" He asks worryingly.

I blushed and looked to the side, breaking eye contact.

"It's nothing, really." I answer.

"I don't believe you." Natsu says.

"Well you should." I snap at him.

Natsu sighed and handed me my book back.

He got up and was smothered with fangirls. And as usual, he flirted with all of them.

I got up and left to join Erza at her table.
Was I... jealous?

Yes, you were. And you still are.

Am not!

Liar :). Look, I'm just trying to help you.

Well I don't need h-

"Lucy, are you okay? You seem troubled." Erza asks.

She then looked behind me and saw Natsu flirting. She then giggled.

"Are you jealous?" Erza smirked.

"It's not that, it's just... I'm really confused. That's all." I answer softly.

Erza raised an eyebrow and asked "Hm? What about?"

"I'm in love with Natsu, but at the same time, I'm not. When I see him, I get a nice and warm feeling and a guilt feeling right after." I look down at the ground.

"You're very much in love with him, and you're scared of losing him. You don't want to ruin your friendship, but at the same time, you wanna be with him." Erza smiles.

Man, why does Erza always have the best advice and explanations? (Because she's bae, that's why. -Author).

I smiled at Erza and nodded my head.
"Yeah... Maybe that's it." I say softly.

No matter what I feel for him, I will always support him. Because we're friends.

"Luce... Will you go to the Halloween dance with me?" Natsu asks as he walks over to me.

Natsu's POV
"As Friends?" Lucy asks while smiling.
I tried hiding my sadness. It feels like she just stabbed me in the chest.

"As Friends..." I smile at her.

Thoughts of Lucy being with another guy invaded my head. It crushed my heart, but I tried not to let it show.

"Rejected? "Jellal asks as he patted me on the back.

"Nah, she said that we could go as friends." I smirk.

"Oh man, he got friend zoned!" Gray laughs.

"Oh? What about YOU, Ice princess?" I snap at him, sassily.

"Did you forget? I'm going with my girlfriend." Gray mocked me.

I almost forgot that he's dating Juvia now. What an odd pairing.

I stomped away as Gray laughed at me.

As friends huh.

We finally got our report cards. Lucy got straight A's, while I got B's and C's.

After that, Lucy and I danced during the Halloween dance. She looked so happy, I wanted to kiss her.
But,
We only went as friends.

When I got home, I see Wendy with a blue kitty and a white kitty.

"Wendy! Where the hell did you get 2 cats?!" I blurt out.

"Oh, Lucy sent them over! She was grateful that you saved her, and she loved the poem. So she sent a blue kitty for you! And, a white kitty for me because I'm like a sister to her. Don't worry, mom and dad approve of us having cats!" Wendy happily explains.

Wendy named her cat Carla, and I named mine Happy
