As my senses come back to me, I feel an unsettling gaze rest upon me. I try moving to sit up but a vice like grip holds me down. Panicking, I pry my eyes open, only to see an older woman attached to my hand.

Screaming, I rip my hand from her grip and back away from her. I hear a repeated fast thumping in my ears and tune into the fast beeping of machine next to me.

"W-who are you?" I stutter. My voice is scratchy and foreign to my own ears.

The woman looks at me, with a mixture of happiness and sadness. How does one possess the ability to show such opposite emotions in one sitting? Well, I wasn't quite sure.

"Emily?" Her voice is smooth but scratchy as well. She sounds tired and has big dark rings under her soft blue eyes. Upon seeing these, some sort of comfort and security within them wraps around me and I find myself calming down.

I shake my head, trying to convey the message that I wasn't this Emily girl, without having to speak.

The lady shakes her head too, before standing up, "I'm just going to get a nurse or doctor, okay?"

I nod. That seems like the way to go in this situation.

Soon a doctor and a nurse appears at my side as well as three other people. The woman from before, a man and a boy. All of them are strangers and I am confused as to why they are here.

"Good morning, Emily. I'm Dr. Wilson and this is Nurse Dorothy. We would just like to ask you some questions."

I nod my head, pointing towards the water that sat in a jug next to me.

"Ahh of course. My apologies, your throat must be sore," he said while passing me a glass. "Well in that case you can just nod yes or shake your head no, okay?"

I nod.

"Very good. Do you know what your name is?"

Well, everyone is calling me Emily, so is that my name?

I shrug.

"Okay, do you know what the date is?"

The date? Like the number of the day? Well, no...

I shake my head.

"Very well, can you move your fingers and toes for me please?"

I wriggle them around. "Very good. Mr and Mrs Price could you please step outside with me?" He motions towards the man and woman. "Nurse Dorothy will inform Marcus and Emily about what's happening."

I blink a few times, taking in my surroundings. Everything is so white it hurts to look around. The smell seems awfully familiar and I soon realise it's a hospital I'm in. My gaze then settles upon the boy, Marcus I assume, and he smiles at me.

The smile sends a shiver through my body and I'm quite sure why. It isn't a good shiver either, but more of a fearful one.

I smile back, not wanting to be rude.

"Emily," Nurse Dorothy starts once Dr. Wilson, Mr and Mrs Price leave the room. "I'm afraid you have amnesia."

What?

Wait, what?

My face must show confusion because the next words she says explained it all. "We found large amounts of Carbon Monoxide in your system. It's a good thing that Marcus' parents over here found you or you both would've died."

I shoot a quizzical glance over at Marcus, who is he?

"I'm sorry to be the one to break this awful news to you, as you seem like a lovely girl and all. Hopefully we will start doing some exercises that might bring your memory back." She smiles sympathetically at me.

I frown slightly. At this point in time, I don't need sympathy from people, I just need my memories back.

Frustrated, I finally I find my voice again and utter a quiet, "Can you all just leave me alone?"

I need time to get through this myself. Doesn't matter how long it takes, it could be a week, a year, or even a decade, but to be honest I don't really care how long it takes as long as they come back to me.

I've lost all my memories. I have amnesia...
