Chapter Fifteen

Liberty
Early the next morning, Trey and I packed our things and left early the next morning. I was hyperventilating in the car on the way to city hall. Are we doing the right thing? I look over at Trey's face but it's blank.

"Trey," I begin,"We don't have to do this now, y'know."

He glances at me then back at the road.

"Do you want to do this, Liberty?" He asks,"It's okay if you don't. I gave you the damn ring so that we can do this,"

I frown at his last comment. He's obviously not okay with the idea of me disagreeing.

"Trey, we got into a huge argument with my parents. I don't have the energy to argue with you,"

"What are you trying to say then? I'm about to pull up to city hall now! Are we doing this?" He asks annoyed.

I put my face in my hands then look back at Judiah. He doesn't deserve this.

"Let's do it," I sigh.

I fiddle with the engagement ring and stare out the window.

"Lib, we have all this stress on us. I know it's hard for us now, but you need to trust me on this,"

I roll my eyes,"Trey, you've been telling me to trust you since the beginning. Haven't I? My father hates you,"

Trey doesn't say anything until we pull up to city hall. He parks and shuts off the engine. He takes my hand and squeezes it. His face reads pain.

"You think it makes me happy to know that one of the men I respect the most has lost respect for me? I'm working on this. Just be my wife, Liberty. That's all I ask for for now and I'll work on everything else later," he says with sincerity

"Yes, Tremaine. We're eternally connected because of Judiah. And I kinda like you. I'm not going anywhere," I playfully say.

"So?" He smiles.

"So let's go get married," I say with a slight smile.

We get out of the car and Tremaine get Judiah from the back. I threw on a pair of jeans, a tshirt, and sneakers and Trey has something similar on. Lol. I take Tremaine's free hand as we walk up the steps. We're finally doing this.

Then, gunshots ring through the air and I'm pushed forward. My leg is burning.

"Stay down!" Tremaine yells as he covers Judiah with his body.
