Y/N's POV

I smiled to myself as I talked to Luna Lovegood about the silliest of things, like Nargles. We walked through the crowded halls as Luna described the creatures in such detail, and, I mean, it would be hard for anyone not to smile. Her dreamy voice just whisks you away.

"See my necklace?" She held out a golden chain with a piece of cork hooked onto it. "This is butter beer cork. It's supposed to keep those mischievous Nargles away." I couldn't help but to giggle slightly. "And my earrings, too!" She cupped her hands behind her ears to show me her Dirigible Plum earrings. "These keep them away, too. I made them myself."

"So you believe these creatures exist?" I asked as we turned into the Great Hall for dinner. Luna nodded. "Of course! My father thinks so too. Why else would my papers and shoes disappear?" I just laughed and sat down next to her at the Ravenclaw table. "Fair point."

As the hall started to slowly fill up with students, more chatter flowed between the students, especially one specific topic: The up coming ball. Nearly every girl was squealing about it, taking about dresses, dates, love potions...

I wrinkled my nose as two girls screamed because they bought the same exact dress. Honestly, I am actually kind of excited about this ball, but not as much as those girls. They're simply mad.

As I was mentally chanting fight fight fight as the two screaming girls accused each other of "copying them", I felt a small tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Luna with some mashed potato on her upper lip, looking in the direction of the two girls fighting. "Did the Nargles take their stuff, too?" She asked airily. I giggled and took a napkin to wipe her lip. "No." I looked back to see that Professor Snape was now escorting them out, probably to detention. He looked anything but thrilled to be babysitting two hormonal teenagers. "They were fighting over something about the upcoming ball. Something about their dresses, I believe." I looked back to see a puzzled expression etched on Luna's face.

"What ball?"

I laughed, thinking she was joking, but when her expression didn't waver, I stopped. "Luna," I gasped. "Everybody has been taking about this for months! How could you not have known?" She just shrugged and turned her attention back to her plate. "I don't really talk to 'everybody'."

"Well, I'm sure you've overheard someone talking about it or something, right?"

She just shook her head and smiled. "Why listen when you have the Quibbler?" I laughed and nodded my head. "Yes, I guess that's true."

We sat in a moment before I said: "Are you going?" I drummed my fingers on the table nervously, relieved when her response was a simple nod of her head. "Do you have a date?" She asked, and I felt myself tense up. "Er, no." Luna nodded her head in thought as she took another bite of her food.

"Who do you want to go with?"

My eyes widened a bit and I slowly turned towards her. What the hell am I supposed to say? By George, Luna Lovegood, I want to go with you! I chuckled to myself quietly at that and Luna gave me a questioning look, and I realized she was still waiting for an answer. "I-I mean, well, if you wanted to-" I was cut of by Luna planting a quick small kiss on my lips, pulling away before I could even process what was happening. She the opened up a new issue of the Quibbler and acted as if the kiss never happened.

I blinked, looking at her strangely. Did that all happen in my head? It happened so quickly, it could be possible. My train of thought was broken, however, when I felt a small hand grab mine under the table. I grinned wide and turned to Luna, who's eyes never left her Quibbler. "Love should not be hidden, instead seen." She said softly, a small smile playing on her lips. "You're not very good at hiding it, though."
