So, I've always thought: What if the books were real inside of TMI? Well...
Jace walked into the living room of Jocelyn and Luke's house. Clary was sitting on the couch with her face in her hands and her shoulders were shaking.
"Clary, love, what's wrong?" Jace asked rushing to her side.
"Huh?" She looked up. Tears were streaming down her face but she was smiling.
Jace gave her a confused look as she doubled over in a fit of laughter. "Clary?" He said.
Clary tried to stop laughing, but that just made her laugh more. Once she finally got herself under control, she said: "So, I was reading The Infernal Devices again and--" her words cut off as she began to laugh again. Clary's laugh was a beautiful laugh. She squeaked a few times but was mostly silent. Jace waited for her to continue. "And," she finally said, "Gabriel Lightwood just--" She doubled over in laughter again.
"Clary, what did Gabriel do?" Now, Jace was beginning to laugh.
"Here," she said between laughs, "just-read it." She pointed to a spot in the very first chapter of Clockwork Princess.
Jace read it. "Clary, I don't see whats so funny about this."
She had calmed her laughter a bit, but she was still giggling. "Do you remember at Magnus' party when Simon was turned into a rat?" She asked him
"What does that have to do with this?" Jace asked. He was still beyond confused.
"Just a sec." She ran into her old room and came back a few seconds later. She had a book and she was flipping through the pages. She giggled a little when she found what she was looking for. She handed the book to him, it was City of Bones.
Jace read what Clary had told him to. "Still don't get it."
She sighed and picked up Clockwork Princess again. "'Is Father hurt?'" She read. "Gideon went on, coming to a stop before his brother. 'Are you?' He put his hand up and took his brother's face, his hand cupping Gabriel's chin and turning it toward him. Though Gabriel was taller, the look of a younger sibling was clear in his face-relief that his brother was there, and a flicker of resentment at his peremptory tone.
"'Father ...,' Gabriel began. 'Father is a worm.'
"Will gave a short laugh. He was in gear as if he had just come from the practice room, and his hair curled damply against his temples. He was not looking at Tessa, but she had grown used to that. Will hardly ever looked at her unless he had to. 'It's good to see you've come round to our view of things, Gabriel, but this is an unusual way of announcing it.'
"Gideon shot Will a reproachful look before turning back to his brother. 'What do you mean, Gabriel? What did Father do?'
Gabriel shook his head. 'He's a worm,' he said again, tonelessly.
"'I know. He has brought shame on the name of Lightwood, and lied to both of us. He shamed and destroyed our mother. But we need not be like him.'
"Gabriel pulled away from his brother's grip, his teeth suddenly flashing in an angry scowl. "You're not listening to me," he said. "He's a worm. A worm. A bloody great serpentlike thing.'"She picked up City of Bones next. "'He's a rat,' she said darkly.'" Clary read.
"'Did he do something to you?' Alec was full of brotherly concern. 'Did he touch you? If he tried anything—'
"'No, Alec,' Isabelle said irritably. 'Not like that. He's a rat.'
"'She's drunk,' said Jace, beginning to turn away in disgust.
"'I'm not,' Isabelle said indignantly. 'Well, maybe a little, but that's not the point. The point is, Simon drank one of those blue drinks—I told him not to, but he didn't listen—and he turned into a rat.'
"'A rat?' Clary repeated incredulously. 'You don't mean...'
"'I mean a rat,' Isabelle said. 'Little. Brown. Scaly tail.'" She finished while, of course, still giggling."Ok, so Simon turned into a rat and one of Alec's ancestors turned into a worm," Jace stated. "I'm not seeing the connection."
Clary sighed. "Isabelle kept saying that Simon was a rat and Alec was thinking that he was being a jerk. Gabriel said that their father was worm and Gideon was thinking that he had finally learned the truth about Benedict." She explained.
He stared at her. "I still don't understand why that's funny."
"Then you probably never will," she gave up.
"I'm sorry, mi amor," he said.
"It's fine," she leaned back into his embrace.
Mk, sooo, most of that was Cassie's writing but, I mean, they were reading her books. Those two excerpts were both read by Clary and they are in Italics. The first one is from chapter one of Clockwork Princess and the second was from chapter 13 of City of Bones.
Was that one too short? Idk probably... Can ya peeps give me an idea? I would appreciate it!
Thanks for reading!
