Domenic
Three years. I have waited three years for my mate. I turned nineteen today, most male wolves find their mate the night they turn sixteen.
Not me. I have waited three years for her. Maybe I don't have a mate...maybe she died or something...maybe-
"Dude are you coming or what?" My best friend Dale says interrupting my thoughts.
"I am the only male ever in this pack that has not found their mate at sixteen. Did you know that? And I'm the alpha's son, that is unheard of to not find a mate after the first change. Most alpha's find their mate early.....why didn't I? Maybe I don-"
"Will you quit brooding. She'll get here when she gets here ok? Now get off that bed and lets go run! A full moon only comes once a month!"
I sigh, he's right. I get up from the bed and follow my friend downstairs.
My mother looks from me to Dale with shock. "Dale you're a miracle worker! I don't know how you got him out of that room!! I've been trying for days!" She says running to Dale giving him a hug and kiss on the forehead.
"Well Mrs. Brookes all it takes is a strong hand and-"
I cut him off "Don't let him lie to you mom. I came willingly. "
She nods and smiles, "Where are you two boys off to?" She questions.
Dale beats me to an answer, "Around, we don't have a place picked out yet we'll just run until we get tired, then come back."
She looks at us skeptically but nods. "Alright but you two boys be careful."
"Yes mom." We say together turning to exit. She chuckles.
We head to my backyard, walking behind a group of trees starting to strip.
"Ilya is going to meet us by the creek with some other pack members. We figured we would the south side of Buck Pass." Ilya was Dales mate. All my friends had mates. Except me of course. "Will you quit thinking about it! I wanna have fun! But if your in one of your moods it will be impossible!"
I nod, I don't want to ruin their fun tonight. "Why are we all running together?"
"Your fathers orders. He said there is hunters in the area. His exact words were Proceed with caution kids" He chuckled.
I have know idea why.
My bones start to pop and crack as I shift to my wolf. A very large black wolf, like my fathers.
Come on! Lets go! Dale yells through the pack link.
We take off, racing to our destination.
The creek is only a few miles away, we make it there in minutes.
"Hey Domenic good to see you made it! We thought for sure you wouldn't come with us." I give a nod to my friend Trent, not really in the mood for talking.
"Everybody here? Can we go?" Dale says, everyone nods or mumbles yes's through the pack link.
We take off, running like the wind.
I recede to the back of my mind, letting my wolf run. Let him run off some of his frustration of not finding our mate.
About half way there he turns off away from our group.
What are you doing! We have to stay together! I yell at him.
Close, so close......almost there... he replies back.
What are you- I start but am cut off by a very angry Dale
"Where are you!! What happened to staying together!" He yells at me through the pack link. My wolf growls at him, not liking that he is yelling at us and we are higher in rank.
"I don't know! I let my wolf take over and-and now he's- well I have know idea what he's doing or where he is going. He keeps saying we are close though.....whatever that means."
Just then he stops, and hits me. That smell, strawberry and vanilla. I assaults my nose, but in a good way.
Mate my wolf growls.
I stick my nose in the air and start running after the smell.
I have waited to damn long to wait another moment for her. I. Want. My. Mate.
My wolf howls agreeing with me.
The smell leads to an old back road. Not bothering to follow the smell anymore I follow the road.
Up ahead I can see a black dodge driving.
The smell, it comes from there.
I push my wolf harder, making him run faster so we can run in the woods beside the truck.
There is a girl driving, the windows are down and she has some rock song blaring.
Mate....MINE, I WANT MATE! My wolf says to me.
I have to stop her. How do I stop her?!
"Dale stand on the bridge of Pipe Creek Road!! NOW!!! My mate! She's almost there. I have to stop her!!"
I hear gasps through the mind link. Everyone jumps into action. Trying to help as best they can.
The Bridge is coming up.
Dales brown wolf leaps onto the bridge, my mate slams on the brakes. Stopping only a few feet in front of Dale.
I stand in the bushes, watching what she will do.
She puts the truck in reverse and pulls a good fifteen feet away from Dale. Then turns the truck off.
She opens her door, slowly stepping out.
Camera in hand.
"Nice little wolf. Don't run away....I just want to get some pictures of you....its okay" She says. She sounds like an angel, voice soft and soothing.
"Uh........Dom........What the fuck am I supposed to do." Dale asks a little worried.
"Look pretty" I say. He growls at my response.
His growl scares my angel and she jumps up from her crouching stance she was using to take the picture.
"Nice wolfy......I'm just going to get in the truck now and leave you alone.....be nice.....no biting....."
"What do we do! She's leaving!" Dale says. I sigh.
"Let her go." He looks at me shocked.
"She's human. She doesn't know about us. I cant just change and tell her she's mine! But there was a faint smell of wolf on her. We need to follow her home. Then plan from there."
He slowly moves off the bridge. Letting her pass by.
My wolf growls furiously at me for letting her go.
But what else was I to do?
