Alec's POV
Even when Alec's parents approved his sexuality, even when they approved his relationship with Magnus, even when Magnus was completely polite and got along with Robert and Maryse, Alec couldn't help feeling awkward at the dinner table. Should he be the one kinda introducing everyone and making both sides comfortable? Instead he was probably the only uncomfortable one while Magnus talked to his parents and joked around with Isabelle and Max who both seemed to completely love him. It wasn't that Alec wasn't happy about the situation, it was just that he simply couldn't figure out anything to say. Was there something he was suppose to say or ask? It wasn't like he had dated before and knew what it was like to meet your boyfriend's parents or your parents meeting your boyfriend. He sat there, every now and then smiling or nodding along so it didn't look like he had no interest in the conversation.

"It's so cool from the inside!" Max was saying and Alec realized he really had fell off-track from the conversarion. What were they talking about?

"Well, Alec's been surprisingly quiet." Isabelle said with a grin then.

"Probably completely lost in his head as usual." Magnus said, giving Alec a smile and he rolled his eyes.

"No, I'm just..." He wasn't sure if he should just say that yes, that was the case. "What's cool from the inside?"

"The new car." Max explained. Their parents had just gotten a new car because apparently one wasn't enough for their family of five people or the four of them who actually had a licence to drive. Well, according to everyone but Isabelle herself, her licence to drive was debatable.

"Right." Alec just said nodding.

"Black leather seats are always classy." Isabelle said with a grin. "I don't know anything about cars but that thing is pretty."

Alec laughed. "And that's why you'll never get to drive it."

"Ha, watch me." Isabelle said smirking.

"I'm sorry, honey, you're just not the most.. Responsible driver." Maryse told her.

"What? I'm super responsible!" Isabelle argued.

"The first time you took me for a ride, you ran through at least three redlights." Alec pointed out. "I'm surprised we didn't die or get arrested."

"But that was right after I had gotten my licence." Isabelle defended herself.

"Yeah, how did that happen exactly?" Magnus asked and Alec laughed.

"Oh, shut up." Isabelle said even though she was laughing too.

"I'm gonna be the best driver here once I get my licence." Max said proudly. "I'll never run through a redlight."

"That's a pretty smart goal." Magnus observed.

"That's years away." Isabelle pointed out. "We'll see if you'll even remember it once you get your licence."

"Of course I will." Max assured her.

Alec felt a hand on his knee and turned to Magnus. "You okay?" The boy asked and Alec nodded as the others went on with their conversation.

"Yeah."

"You seemed a little nervous earlier." Magnus pointed out.

"I was a little nervous." Alec admitted. "But this is going surprisingly well."

Magnus smiled. "What did you expect? Some kind of an interrogation directed at us?"

Alec rolled his eyes. "No. More like an awkward silence." He explained. "Though I should've known that with you, Izzy and Max at the same table, there is no such thing as silence. Awkward one or any other."

Magnus laughed. "Exactly."

Alec put his hand over Magnus' that was still resting on his leg. Magnus had several rings on his fingers that felt cool under Alec's palm. "You know..." Alec said then and looked up at the other boy. "I like this surprisingly much. I have all the most important people to me at the same table."

Magnus smiled widely. "I would kiss you if I wasn't currently dining with your family. But yeah, otherwise I really like this too." Alec laughed.

"What are you whispering about?" Max asked suddenly and Alec turned to his brother.

"We're not whispering." He said. "It's nothing."

"It's just their couple stuff." Isabelle told Max who nodded and Alec rolled his eyes.

"So, how long have you two been together exactly?" Robert asked then and Alec who had been raising his waterglass to his lips froze. I knew it. He thought. There had to be an awkward side to all of this.

"Um..." He mumbed, wondering what to say as he put his glass down. Is this the part where I'm supposed to lie again so they wouldn't get mad over how long we've hid it? He thought. But was it even that long? No, wait.. How long had we been together exactly? Um... The silence was turning too long. "Not too long." Alec said out loud.

Robert laughed. "Well, good. It would be quite a shame if you felt like it had been too long."

Magnus smiled at Alec. "Yeah, lucky me."

Alec rolled his eyes but laughed. "Yeah, um.. I just meant.. Not that long. But for a while. For like.. I don't know.. A while."

"I'm guessing this is the time to change the subject." Isabelle said then. "I love your shirt, Magnus, where did you buy it?"

"I actually don't know," Magnus replied. "It was my dad's."

"Oh, is he dead or..?" Isabelle asked then.

"Izzy!" Alec said strictly even though he actually didn't know about Magnus' dad either and was kinda curious, but unlike his sister he had decided not to press the subject if Magnus didn't wanna talk. "I'm sorry," Alec told Magnus. "She has no filter."

"I didn't mean it in an unpolite way!" Isabelle said quickly. "I was just.. Asking."

"Yeah, he died before I was born." Magnus just said. "And it's fine, I'm not offended. It's not a forbitten subject."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Alec said, squeezing Magnus' hand that he was still holding.

"Well, I never knew him." Magnus just said with a shrug.

"That's sad." Max observed.

"I guess." Magnus replied. "Kinda, yeah."

"It's nice to have a dad." Max said nodding and Alec was trying to signal him to shut up but the boy didn't seem to notice him at all. "But I'm also sad he didn't get to know you. He would like a lot. I think you're really easy to like." Alec stopped giving him disapproving looks and instead turned to Magnus who smiled at Max.

"Thank you." He just said. "You're very easy to like as well." Max just smiled widely. Alec almost sighed in relief.

"Speaking about your awesomeness, Max. You wanna tell the others how well you did at the football practice this week?" Isabelle asked then, apparently again deciding that it was time to change the subject.

Okay, football practice. Alec thought. This conversation can't get awkward or uncomfortable, right?
