Recap: The battle of the five armies has begun.

Chapter 27

I've never really thought that I would be fighting in and actual war. If it meant protecting those I love and the innocent then I'd gladly do it over and over again. I watch Thranduil order his Elves to ready their bows. The first few rows of Elves pull out their bows and nock their arrows. They wait for their king's command.

I glance at Gandalf who looks up at Raven Hill where the signal tower is. Gandalf looks slightly panicked. I remember that Azog is sending another group of Orcs to destroy Dale.  "Azog. He's trying to cut us off" he mutters.

"Yes" I agree. "We have to destroy the tower." A plan starts forming in my head. It's a plan that's completely stupid, reckless and suicidal. But it's also a genius plan...that's if it works. I know I'm walking right into a trap. I just have to figure out a strategy that would let two lone warriors conquer the two most powerful Orcs in history, without dying. Preferably not dying. Yeah, I'd rather not die.

The people of Lake-town fall back to Dale under Bard's command. The Orcs that Azog sent to Dale have also brought cave-trolls along with them.

'Ooh, Cave-trolls. Fun. Note the Sarcasm'

Bilbo follows Gandalf to the city of Dale. They leave Dain and his Dwarves to fight the Orcs. Jo and I start to run after Gandalf. We slow down and stop. I pause, looking back at the Elves and Thranduil. Thanduil is looking all epic with his sword, killing Orcs while riding his elk. My eyes widen as I see an entire line of cave-trolls appear at the top of a hill of the other side of the battlefield. The cave-trolls have catapults with large chunks of rock in them. The Orcs are using the catapults to fling the rocks at Dale, trying to bring the city down.

I glance at Jo. I jerk my head in the direction of the Dwarves, they look like they're going to need some help. Jo nods and closes her eyes momentarily. Bright light glows around her. It fades away, leaving a set of bronze armor in it's place.

"Don't die" I tell Jo, smiling slightly. I pull out my dual swords and glance at my cousin.

She smiles wryly and replies "That's the plan."

The two of us run back across the battlefield towards the Dwarves. We give our own battle cries and join the fighting.

'Slash. Dodge. Roll. Stab. Duck. Repeat'

I cross my swords in an X in front of my face. I slash the throat of the nearest Orc. I dodge an Orc ax and roll under the legs of a cave-troll. I get up and stab an Orc directly in the heart. I pull my sword out of the Orc's chest. An Orc tries to attack me from behind but I do a complete turn on my heel and cut off the Orc's head. I duck as an Orc swings his sword at me. I stab the Orc in it's gut. I pull out my sword and it drops dead. I turn slightly and slash my swords in an X across the chest of a particularly large Orc. I spin around and slice the head off another Orc. Soon, I'm covered in the disgusting  black blood of the Orcs. I work my way through the hordes of Orcs to the same pattern.

I notice Jo is close by she's also covered from head to toe in black blood. An Orc comes up behind her as she plunges her sword into the chest of an Orc. I quickly pull out a ring dagger and throw it at the Orc behind my cousin. My dagger ends up in the Orc's neck. I run over to Jo and I yank my dagger out of the Orc's corpse. Jo nods and me. Her eyes flicker over to something to my right. Instinctively, I duck and Jo slices off the head of the Orc that was trying to catch me off guard.

I nod back to Jo. It was too loud to hear anything someone was trying to say so I don't bother. Jo and I slice and dice our way though the legions of Orcs. Eventually, I find myself surrounded by a large ring of Orcs with Jo by my side.

"BACK TO BACK!" I scream at my cousin, thinking quickly. My eyes dart back and forth like a cornered animal.

Jo slams her back against mine. I look at each of the Orcs in turn, daring one of them to attack us first. One little Orc gets a little impatient and attacks before the others. The Orc lunges forward, shrieking loudly. Jo easily stabs it in the chest and pulls her sword out. The Orc drops dead. The rest of the Orcs are angered by her action and they all attack us at once. I growl as I slash an Orc's head off. I turn and plunge a sword into the chest of another Orc. I kick the next Orc in the chest and slash it's throat. Black blood squirts all over my face and hair. I try, unsuccessfully, to wipe the sticky blood off my cheek but I only smear it across my face more.

Jo and I slowly make our way over to where Dain was reforming his ranks. Jo and I hurry to add ourselves to the Dwarfish army. We end up standing next to Dain at the front. He looks us both up and down before grinning at us. "It's good to have ye on our side, lasses. Let's see how long you'll last" Dain shouts, clapping me on the shoulder.

"Let's make it interesting. Whoever kills more Orcs, buys the other a full barrel of their favorite liquor. Deal?" I bet with Dain.

Dain grins, cockily "Deal" he replies. "Now, let's kill some more of these bastards."

I grin back at Dain. "My pleasure." This going to sound really wrong and creepy but I just love killing Orcs. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to kill either Bolg or Azog. Possibly both.

One of the Dwarves of the Company blows a horn loudly and a large bell crashes through the recently rebuilt wall. Large chunks of stone rain down into the water below. The rocks make a smooth path across the water onto the battlefield. The front line of cave-troll get closer. I hold my breath, just waiting.

The Company of Dwarves come charging out of the mountain with their weapons held high. Thorin is in the lead. Dain's army parts for the Company. I glance at Jo and she smiles back joyfully. The Company rushes by us giving long loud battle cries of their own. I take a deep breath and follow the lead of the Company. Jo is by my side. Dain and his army follows behind Jo and I. Together, we all charge the Orc ranks.

AUTHOR'S NOTE---------

So how did you guys like this chapter?

I'm getting to the final battle with Azog and Bolg. I just don't know how I'm going to write it out.

Are my fight scenes good? I mean are they believable? Can you actually imagine the fights happening? I still think they're kind of crappy. What do you guys think?

For all you Tauriel lovers out there, yes Tauriel is still going to be in the next few chapters. No, I'm not going to kill her off. I like Tauriel's character.

Enjoy the next few emotional chapters, my fellow Tolkien-lovers 😄
