After being caught sneaking out past curfew, I've been told I have to tell Ruth where I'm going whenever I leave the house, who I'll be seeing while I'm out, and when I'll be home. It's irritating to not be as independent as before, but I'm only going to be constantly monitored by her for about a week. Mute got practically the same punishment as me, which I don't think is too bad of a punishment in itself. It's not like we have to stand out in the sun and do yard work for hours. And I can still go anywhere I want, only I need Ruth's permission more.
I walked into my room and Riley was laying across the ground, drawing swatches of lipstick across her hand. An assortment of other makeup products were randomly scattered on the floor around her.
"Hey, what are you doing?" I asked, sitting on the ground next to her.
"Getting ready to see my friends."
I forgot. I promised her I'd help her get ready to go out with her friends. I told her I'd be there to help her, and now she's doing everything on her own, without my assistance.
"Riley, I'm so sorry. I forgot you were going to see your friends tonight."
She shook her head and waved her hand at me, brushing off the idea of me disappointing her.
"It's no big deal. I didn't think you were home, so I thought I should just get ready on my own."
"Well let me help," I offered, picking up one of the brushes laying besides us.
"Thanks," she smiled, turning towards me to allow me to start applying products on her face.
It took about half a hour to finally finish, the only reason being that I'm indecisive and couldn't choose what shades of pink to use, but I think my masterpiece turned out alright.
"Okay," I said, brushing on the final bit of powder, "you're done."
Riley bounced up from he ground and ran to the mirror, turning her head to different angles to see the detailing and color on her face. She smiled and turned to me, shifting back and forth to contain her excitement.
"Thank you!" She screeched, running over to hug me.
"No problem, do you like it?"
She pulled away from me and nodded quickly, then ran back to the mirror and continued to examine her face and all the work I put into it.
"Do you know what you're wearing?" I asked, standing up to come into view of the mirror.
"Yea," Riley said, sprinting off towards the closet and pulling out a pale blue swimsuit. She then reached in and brought out a pair of denim shorts and a white halter top. I don't know how Ruth's going to let her leave the house in that, but the outfit is perfect.
"Well, I need to get ready. Thank you so much for your help," she said, a smile forming on her face.
"No problem. Let me know how it goes!" I insisted.
Riley came up to me and gave me one final hug before walking towards the bathroom to get changed. Seeing her excited and happy make me excited and happy myself, which I don't understand because I'm not the one going.

"Ruth, can I go for a bike ride?" I asked, shoving my phone deep into my back pocket.
"Where are you riding to?"
"Just around. Nowhere in particular."
"Is anyone else going to be there?"
"No, not that I know of. It's just a bike ride."
