"I'm sure many of you are confused as to why the sorting hat is here since it is not the first day of school. The reason behind this is that Hogwarts has the pleasure of gaining a new student," Dumbledore turned to the Gryffindor table, "Evelyn Potter, would you mind coming up here to be sorted?"
There were many whispers coming from all of the tables, everyone wondering why there was another Potter at Hogwarts all of a sudden. James squeezed Eve's shoulder reassuringly as Lily, Remus, Sirius, and Peter smiled at her. Eve got up from her seat and made her way to the front of the Great Hall, feeling uncomfortable under everyone's stares.
As Eve got closer to the front, she noticed the headmaster had returned to his seat and McGonagall was now standing next to the hat. McGonagall smiled kindly at Eve once she reached the stool and gestured for her to take a seat. Eve did so slightly shakily, though she hoped no one noticed. McGonagall placed the hat on Eve's head, causing her to jump when she heard an unfamiliar voice inside of her head.
"Oh, another Potter. Yes, you're definitely brave like your brother, but you have a more calm composure about you, I can tell. You're very studious, you like to know things. Gryffindor or Ravenclaw would be a nice fit for you. However, I think Raven-"
Eve cut the hat off in her mind, knowing she had to tell the hat her where she wanted to be before it made the final decision, "I'd like to be in Gryffindor, with my brother," she thought this as confidently as she could, hoping it would work and the hat would hear her.
"Gryffindor could work, but I think Ravenclaw could help you more on your way to greatness."
"No, I need to be in Gryffindor. You said it suits me, so please," she hoped maybe begging the hat would work.
"Alright, well, if you need to be in Gryffindor, then I suppose I'll put you in... GRYFFINDOR!" The hat yelled Gryffindor out for the whole hall to hear, causing all of the Gryffindors to stand up and applaud for their newest member. They all seemed proud to have a new student and another Potter in their house.
After McGonagall removed the hat from her head, Eve stood up and looked towards her brother and his friends, who were all on their feet clapping and yelling for her. She thought about how she called them his friends, and thought that maybe they were her friends, too.
She beamed at them and proceed to walk back to the spot she had previously been in. She got there and James gave her a big hug, followed by Lily who said, "We get to share a dorm now, I can't wait!" She high-fived Sirius, Remus, and Peter, although it was rather reluctant because she wasn't all that fond of high fives, but how could she not high five those three?
Just as they sat back down and continued talking, a bunch of food appeared in front of them, making Eve jump in surprise. They all noticed and laughed at her reaction before grabbing anything and everything off of the platters.
After Eve filled up her plate she turned to Lily, "Do you think you could tutor me? I didn't know I was a witch until Friday, so I'm kind of around the level of a second year," Eve explained.
Lily smiled to her and only had the chance to say yes before James began talking, "I thought the boys and I were going to tutor you! That hurts me, Eve! It hurts me right here," James proceeded to dramatically grab the right side of his chest.
Eve sighed, "James, your heart is on the left side of your chest," this prompted James to blush and move his hand over and everyone else to laugh at him.
"Maybe that's why Lily won't go out with you, Prongs," Sirius began, making Lily sigh, "Maybe you're giving her the feelings from the right side of your chest, not the left. Not from your heart."
