stragglers and hunters

Nick's Pov.

today we were going to talk to Sarah, i hope its not bad.  it was already past when dad and alex get back.  mom, katherine and christina havent yet.

"nick, lauren come on!"  dad hollered from the front door.  i got up from the couch and put my shoes on. lauren meet us at the door.  "ready?" dad questioned.

"yup"  i said, popping the p.  we went outside where alex was waiting.  

"finally"  he huffed.  we started down the dirt road towards sarah's house.

"where are you guys going?"  dani asked. her, christian and joey ran out from behind the house.

"to sarah's house!"  i answer her.  we kept walking. 

they ran to cetch up. "can we come?" christian asked

we stopped walking and dad said, "im sorry, but sarah asked to just talk to us four."  

they looked a little disappointed. "thats alright"  christian told us with a frown. then the ran off.  

once we got to sarah's house dad knocked.  after a few seconds of waiting sarah answered the door with jackson behind her.  "hey nick!" he smiled.

"hi" i waved.

"hey jackson, why dont you go to your room?" sarah tried to get rid of him.

"but i dont want to" jackson wined.

"you can go to my house, dani, christian and joey are playing outside" dad offered.

"okay!"  jackson ran out of the house. "bye nick!"  he shouted over his shoulder.

"Bye!" i replied.

for a second we stand there akwardly. "oh! come in!" sarah moves out of the door way and lets us in.

"so what do you want to talk about?"  dad asked while we sit around the dining room table.  

"well theres an issue"  sarah looks at all of us.

"what kind of issue?" alex asks with a concerned look.  

sarah looks down and then back up, "there is a lack of hunters.  we are all getting killed by runners." 

"what!?!  sarah maybe we should try to get you working in the safe zone"  alex freaked out, they are really good friends. 

"no, you should focus on yourselves."  sarah calms alex down.  what does she mean?  "i heard because of the lack of hunters the officials are transferring all the stragglers over."  

"so that means alex and i will be hunters?" dad was worried for alex.  

"yes, but i also heard they were going to drop the age for the hunters"  sarah stated.

"what do you mean?" lauren spoke up.

"there arent enough stragglers over 16 to get enough supplies, they are going to drop the age for the hunters only."  sarah told lauren.

"whats the new age limit?" dad questioned her.

"i've heard a lot of different answers to that question.  some say 14, 12 and ive even heard 6."  sarah said.  dad barried his face with his hands, sarah saw he was upset. "but those could have been rumors!" she quickly added.

"when will we know for sure?" alex asked.

"tomarrow, i think"  sarah said sadly. "im sorry" 

"i can handle myself out there, but not my children, not again." dad sighed.  

"dad, it'll be okay" lauren grabed his hand.  but the truth is i dont think it will be okay.

Im sorry for not updating sooner, i dont really have an excuse. it was just a break i guess.  im trying to update all my books more before school starts now so keep an eye out.  thanks for reading!
