Lauren's Pov.

Same day as last chapter

our car stopped at a small town.  there was only a few buildings.  all the windows and doors where broken, the walls had ivy crawling up it.  tall grass grew from the cracks of the cement.  the three men went into a store.

"lets go to this one"  the women takes me a nick with her.  there werent many things.  there hasnt been a lot lately.  we are picking the area dry of supplies.  i dont know what the zone is going to do.  it already takes forever to drive out this far, they cant make us go farther.

"lets check upstairs"  the women instructed us

we slowly walk up the steps, guns ready to fire just in case.  i open the door and peek my head through, nothing.  "its all clear"  i signal them up.

upstairs was like a gold mine.  supplies filled the room in boxes.  too bad most of the food went bad.

"okay, get this stuff in the duffels"  the lady commanded.  we did as she said.  until the guys stopped us.  they bargged in the door, quickly shutting it.

"what are you doing?" nick asked.

"shhhhh" a guy covers nicks mouth.  nick whines and tries to get the hand off.

"please stop making noise!" the guy pleaded to nick.

nick shoved the hand off him, "what the heck?"

"yeah, wha-" i started but quickly stopped when i heard banging coming from downstairs.  the guys pushed something up against the door and crouched down behing a shelf.  we followed.

"runners" they said, knowing we were confused.

"how many?" the girl asked.

"hundreds"  a guy said.  i felt so scared.  sure, we coud deal with ten, but hundreds.  we are dead.

"what should we do?"  i asked.

"wait it out?"  nick offered.

"that sounds good to me"  a guy said.  then a banging came from the door.  the object that held the door shut was being shoved away.  the door began to crack.

"nevermind" he said.

i stared at the door, every time a bang came the door cracked more.  we didnt have much time left. i examined the room for ways to get out.  my eyes found a small window.  it was not big enough for the older people.

"theres a small window, i dont know if you all will fit"  i told them. "maybe you will though"  i shrugged.

another bang came from the door, a large arm broke free.  it gripped the wood and started to rip it away, making the whole bigger.

"we have to try it."  they girl says.  we run to the window and force it open.  i look out and see a thin ledge.  we can climb out and walk on that.  then we will have to find a way to get down later.

"let me out!" one of the guys shove us back and tries to climb out first.  he got stuck ad now we are too.

"hey!  let the kids go first!" another guy tries to pull him out.

"you cant get through, you'll kill us all if you stay there!" the other guy exclaims.  together the pull as hard as they can to get the guy back in.  the door was now almost completely gone.

one last bang made it fall down.  a runner fell down and got trampled by the others.  they came our way.

"come on!" the girl shouted, she started to shoot.

finally the got the man out and i helped nick out.  the other started to shoot.  it attracted the attention of the other runners out side.  i saw them head for the door.

"go!"  the lady practically threw me out.  nick and i gripped the side of the house, praying we wouldnt slip.  i saw the ladies leg stick out of the window.  she was trying to get out, but was pulled back in.  the screams of four adults echoed.  i could already smell the blood and flesh.

nick and i inched our way to the front of the building, one false step and we could fall to the ground. first of all that would really hurt. second of all, the runners would eat us.

"the car!" nick cheered.  i looked and saw it was behind all the runners.  all we had to do was get down and run to it.

but the problem was there was no way we could get down, unless... we jumped.  "we have to jump"  i told nick.

"what? are you crazy?"  he stared at me.

"yes"  i said back before i grabbed him and jumped.  we landed and rolled.  it only hurt a little.  i got up and looked around.

all the runners turned around.  they stared nick and i down.
