Lauren
Lauren was scared.
It wasn't the usual I'm-scared-I-might-die scared but it was more of a I'm-scared-to-be-happy scared.
She and Camila had been together for a week now, somehow things were escalating. They were both enclosed in a fairly small space for them to be apart too long and Lauren feared sooner or later Camila was gonna realize she could do better.
And the worst part would be that Lauren would have to stay with Camila until they killed the Glitched after it.
Lost in her thoughts, Lauren didn't notice that Camila had bounded down the stairs and excitedly made her way to Lauren.
"Morning my lovely girlfriend!" Camila called out, dramatically curtsying the ends of her large t-shirt.
Lauren couldn't help but actually laugh aloud this time at Camila's behaviour. Camila's face flitted into a huge smile, making Lauren smile too.
Camila sat herself down on the chair and patiently waited as Lauren pushed her plate towards Camila and an empty glass. Instead of the usual eggs and toast with butter breakfast, Lauren had made pancakes.
She'd found a pancake mix in the cupboard. To be fair, the last time she'd made pancakes was when she was still in her Predictions World. She'd never made pancakes here but she'd made waffles and in Lauren's mind the technicalities were not that different.
Camila's face lit up when she saw the pancakes, the warm smile immediately elevated Lauren's heart. She could feel the happiness radiating off the smile from Camila's reaction.
They both are their breakfast in silence as Lauren had actually waited for Camila to eat her breakfast with her. It was a comfortable silence, to Lauren's surprise Camila didn't break out with her I hate silence speeches.
Instead Camila would look over at Lauren every moment or so and grin at her before returning her attention to her pancake.
"It's been a month Laur. We need to go shopping." Camila sighed once the breakfast was cleaned away.
Lauren had been dreading this conversation but she knew sooner or later it would come up. It was true, they didn't get enough food to last them but Lauren had been rationing the food as well as she could to conserve it. She'd been really careful to eat less than usual but yet she never told Camila to do the same.
She didn't want Camila to get less than she had, Camila deserved better than that. But that didn't mean she wasn't observant. Camila picked out that Lauren wasn't eating enough two days into Lauren's act.
Lauren was so used to being selfless and being on her own but now that she had Camila to look after and be with, things totally took a flip side.
"Lauren, to Earth!" Camila's voice floated into Lauren's ears, snapping Lauren out of her reverie.
"Sorry, I zoned out." Lauren mumbled, hoping Camila would change the subject but no such luck.
"So as I was saying, I could take the kitchen knife with me and we could kick some flawed ass." Camila announced, pumping her fist in the air.
As cute as Camila looked doing that, Lauren had bigger fish to fry.
"Camz please drop it. It's dangerous!" Lauren insisted, shaking her head.
Camila frowned at Lauren before moving closer to her. She took Lauren's hands and placed them on her waist before looping her own wrists around Lauren's neck. Lauren tensed slightly before relaxing into Camila's embrace.
"There's only one of them Laur, there's two of us. We could take it." Camila stated.
Lauren sighed and moved her head back from Camila's.
"It's still dangerous." Lauren insisted.
"But it'll be more dangerous if it attracts more of them." Camila said triumphantly.
Lauren could tell she'd been sitting on that one but what made it worse that Camila was right.
As much as she hated the idea of Camila getting hurt, she was also terrified of what an army of Glitcheds could do to their little safe haven.
"Okay fine." Lauren nodded defeatedly as Camila jumped up squealing.
Lauren giggled at Camila's actions before throwing an arm around Camila's waist and pulling her close. Leaning down on her, Lauren closed her eyes and closed the distance between their lips.
She gently kissed Camila, her grip on her waist tightening as Camila's hand stroked Lauren's cheek. It was a few seconds before they broke apart for air, cheeks flushed and eyes sparkling.
Lauren didn't think she was scared that moment at all, like all her worries had melted away because Camila was all that mattered.
All that matters.
"I'll go get my backpack." Camila said, pressing a kiss to Lauren's reddened cheeks before skipping upstairs.
Lauren sighed, her eyes followed to the door before she hoisted her own backpack up to the counter and started to pack some things.
A few minutes later the pitter patter of Camila's footsteps announced her arrival. She stared at Lauren's figure as Lauren counted and recounted all the bars she had left to eat.
"I hate that you do that."
"Do what?" Lauren questioned, turning to face a frowning Camila.
"Rationing food for yourself." Camila said gesturing at the cereal bars.
"I don't like that you're starving yourself Laur." Camila continued.
"I'm not starving myself." Lauren defended.
"But you're not eating as much as you should either." Lauren looked away at Camila's accusation.
"I don't want you to do that, we're going to get enough food okay?" Camila said softly, pulling Lauren in for another kiss.
It was soft and left both of them with shivers. Camila pulled away but before she could even breathe, Lauren latched her lips on hers again.
This time the kiss was more passionate, you could feel the gratitude Lauren felt for Camila's concern interwoven with the their kiss.
"You know I'm starting to think you're using this as a way to avoid going out." Camila teased once they finally broke apart.
Lauren raised her hand in mock surrender.
"You caught me." She stated, rolling her eyes before pecking Camila again.
"We should go." Camila said, pulling Lauren towards the door.
Before Lauren could even comprehend anything, Camila had thrown the door open and they were barging into the unknown dangers that were lurking about.
