Camila
How could this be that there was no one here?
The sun had set and risen but there was still not a soul in sight.
Was this a parallel universe? A post- apocalyptic planet? Her own personal hell? Camila didn't know.
She'd much rather not pick, but if she could it would definitely be the personal hell part.
She was never one for religious tendencies although she did go to church regularly when she was younger. She always pictured hell to be what the description entailed, fire and screaming and all that jazz. She also thought that hell would have Dinah, her best friend because God knows how much trouble that girl stirred up.
She hated silence and this is exactly what her personal hell would have.
Maybe her fear of dying alone was coming true.
It was almost afternoon she guessed, judging by the state of the sky. She didn't know what day it was- do calendars even apply in hell? But she had a sinking feeling it was Monday. Most of the horrible shit always started on that damned day anyway.
The sound of her stomach startled her out of her thoughts, it was odd to sense such a humane feeling. Being hungry. Was she still even human? The question through her mind before her stomach let out another rumble.
Camila quickly stood up and her eyes flitted to the gas station store- no way they'd have food.
She mentally argued with herself while she walked to the shop.
Well I'll be damned, the shop did have food.
It was well stocked actually. As odd as she found that, her stomach seemed to have a mind of its own. Camila carefully inspected the food before picking out some packeted muffins and beef jerky.
She walked to the counter and placed her items before realizing that she neither had change nor someone to pay. Once she realized this fact a small grin snuck onto her face and sat on top of the counter, chewing her food and surveying the store.
Once she was finished stayed in the same position for a while, contemplating her next move. She then impulsively moved forward, grabbing a backpack from the shelves she started to stuff essentials in it.
She packed a toothbrush, toothpaste, some clothes, flip flops in the backpack. Then she pulled out another bag and shoved food and water bottles into it. Once she was finished, she stepped back and prided herself for remembering her Girl Scout training about always being prepared.
Although that training was meant for natural disasters but hell should certainly be counted as a natural disaster right?
Maybe staying in one place too long wasn't a good idea either.
"But where can I go?" Camila wondered aloud before remembering that there was no one here so therefore no one would answer her, which meant she would die alone.
Great.
Camila heaved a sigh before putting both bags on her shoulder and walking out. She walked for ten minutes, the afternoon heat had already started to leave her agitated. She ducked into the steps of the closest house for some shade before narrowing her eyes at the door.
Could there be...?
She rang the doorbell and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, she let out another sigh before ringing it again. Once again no one answered. Frustrated, she kicked at the door.
"Ouch!" She yelped, clutching her foot that she had assaulted the door with before leaning against the door for some support when the door swung open. And she fell in.
Camila quickly regained composure and surveyed the house before noticing there was dust everywhere. Which meant that no one had been home for a while. She was okay with this solitude because now she had somewhere to stay.
