[Layla]

After the announcements, all of the young Frays were invited to a party in the Leaders' building. I was so excited, it had been forever since I'd been this hyped up for anything, other than running from the Aggregate officials, of course.

I casually glanced at the mirror in Zia's shop as another girl walked in, her brown hair pulled into a bun with needles sticking out of it.

"You're Layla?" She asked, looking at my hair. I nodded, and she smiled.

"Call me May, I'm Fray Sector's seamstress. I was ordered to make you a dress, no?" May's spoke with a slight Counciltown accent, although it was obvious she was trying to hide it. I wondered what could've possibly caused a rich Special to run away to Fray Sector, but it didn't matter. She was a Fray now.

"Yes, and I have some ideas if that's okay." I said. May nodded.

"Of course!" She exclaimed. "What did you have in mind?"

"Well, I was thinking of a knee length dress, light blue if possible."

"I have lots of light blue fabrics, so how about we see what we can find for you?" May asked me.

"That'll be great. Thank you."

"No problem. Follow me."

[Scarlett]

I groaned as I kicked the metal door again and again even though I knew it was pointless. The Aggregate was the world's most powerful country with the world's most ruthless leader, they compromised nothing when it came to the security of their prisons.

I led my crew into danger, this was all my fault. I should've had a better plan. What was I thinking, just trying to ambush Syrena head on?

I should've known this would happen...

"Hey, what'cha mumbling about over there?" I heard Nora whisper.

Her voice was croaky, and I knew that she was on the verge of crying.

"Nothing."I lied. I had failed at my mission, the Protectorate was going to be so ashamed of me. "How are you feeling?" I asked, reciting my next task in my mind.

Retrieve Layla, Return to Kassia.

"Well, despite the bruises on my arm from the guards dragging me here, I'm fine." Nora looked up at me with her deep blue eyes. "What are we gonna do Scar? I don't want to die..."

"We're not gonna die," I assured her, although I knew the Aggregate was more than willing to kill us. They couldn't risk their citizens finding out about Kassia and the Protectorate, they wanted to keep their Blenders oblivious and submissive forever. The thought made me shudder slightly.

As I shifted my weight, I felt something uncomfortably hard in my back pocket and I reached to get it.

I put it up to my face, and saw that it was my phone, identical to the one that I gave Layla.

I gasped.

But the guards searched me thoroughly and took all of my weapons...how couldn't they have seen this?

I went through the phone's contacts, and found one labeled: EMERGENCY.

I clicked it, and to my delight, it started ringing! How careless of the Aggregate!

A couple seconds later, I heard it someone pick it up.

"Scar?" A familiar voice asked. "What's the matter?"

I breathed a sigh of relief. "J...It's so nice to hear your voice again..."

"Scar, are you okay?" She asked.
