[Evan]
"Evan." Syrena repeated softly. "Nice name."
"Thanks." I replied. Looking up, I noticed that she wore an all black, long sleeved shirt, matching jeans, and sneakers.
Not what the Supreme Leader would wear. I wonder what she's up to.
"So, let's go back to my office to see if we can get her location." Syrena turned around and started to walk back to the tall building where she worked.
As I followed her, I was shot with deadly glances by male Specials, but I could do nothing but pull my cloak more over my face.
Before I knew it, I had lost Syrena. I turned around in circles looking for her.
A smooth, warm hand grabbed mine and and gently tugged on it. Almost tripping, I saw that it was Syrena.
"C'mon Evan, we can't have you just wandering around the Aggregate like this, can we? It's obvious you aren't from around here." For the first time ever, I was surprised to see the cold, unfeeling leader of the Aggregate smile. I smiled back.
"Of course. I'm sorry for getting lost."
We continued walking until we finally got to Counciltown, the home of the Specials, and stopped in front of a building that seemed more pompous than the rest. I assumed it was the Supreme Leader's headquarters.
She walked in first, her warm tone turning to a stern, cold one.
No wonder people are afraid of her, I thought to myself.
"I have very important matters to attend to, please let Agent Livingston know that I will not be able to assign her next mission today," she told a Blender attendant at the front desk.
"Of course, Your Excellency," she nodded and began typing vigorously on her laptop.
Syrena arrogantly marched past the Blender, pushing her blonde hair onto her shoulder. I followed behind her, and slipped my cloak's hood off of my face, exposing my bruises from the fight.
We walked down hallways, and I watched as Syrena looked behind her every couple seconds.
Soon, we came upon an elevator, and Syrena put her finger on the fingerprint scanner.
"Fingerprint authorized." A robotic voice acquired. "Welcome back, Commander Hutchinson."
The elevator opened and we stepped inside, Syrena walking in first. As I got in, I could see that it was made almost entirely of clear glass, I could see all the other floors of the building past my feet, and a spectacular view of Counciltown on all sides. It was magnificent.
"Amazing, right?" She asked, breaking the silence. "Very," I tried to smile, but my cheeks burned, and I ended up wincing in pain.
"Are you okay?" The elevator doors closed. I managed a weak smile and she walked towards me, checking out my bruises.
"Those look pretty bad." She said. I groaned.
"I'm fine...where I'm from, this is nothing." I had no idea why the Supreme Leader of the Aggregate was being so nice to a Kassian in the first place, I couldn't afford to provoke her.
"We need medicine on that." She scrunched up her face. "Immediately."
She was about to say something else when the elevator door opened.
Once we walked out, we were immediately in Syrena's office.
Wow, I thought. Had to be the work of her overprotective mother.
"My mom did all this," she gestured to the office. "She didn't want anyone having to go through any trouble to find me But soon, I'll add more hallways and expand the office."
I nodded, even though I really didn't care.
"So let's find your sister, okay?" She sat down in her high backed chair imprinted with the seal of the Aggregate, opening a new window on her computer. "Oh no," her expression darkened as she looked over a map of the Aggregate.
"What?"
"She's in Fray Sector. It's going to be nearly impossible to get her out of there. Especially because she's with her friends.
"Really?" I gasped. "Wait...why are you doing this for me in the first place?"
"I really do hate working with a Kassian," she scowled. "But finding Layla benefits both of us. You want your sister back, and I want to catch Autumn."
"Autumn Corey?" I asked, confused. I vaguely remembered Layla mentioning something about her friend Autumn, but I didn't know why the Supreme Leader would care about her.
"Yes," Syrena nodded. "I need to activate the Ruby Box, Evan" she said gravely. "And Autumn is the key."
"The Ruby Box!?" I gasped, stepping backwards and preparing to leave. There was no way I could let the Ruby Box fall into the hands of Aggregate filth!
"I know, you're from a Protectorate family," the Supreme Leader sighed. "But remember that you'll never find your sister without my help."
I'll deal with the Protectors and the Ruby Box later. Right now, Layla is the priority.
"Alright, I'll help you."
"Good," Syrena Hutchinson smiled. "You'd better learn right now that I always get my way."
