Emma Swan was just about to open her lunch when a very frazzled David came around the corner of the Sheriffs Station.
"Emma! Come quick! Something's wrong?" "What is it?" Emma asked, eyeing her bag from Granny's. She was used to things going wrong, and most of the time her father over reacted.
"Mary-Margaret found a girl lying in the middle of the street on her way home from school." "Did you get Dr. Whale?" Emma asked, unsure of whether or not her help was needed. He was a deputy after all. He nodded.
"Okay, then. Dr. Whale will take care of it." She unrolled her bag and went for her grilled cheese. "Emma, she's an outsider." Emma dropped the sandwich back into the bag and turned to him.
"What do you mean, 'outsider'? How do we know she hasn't been here all along?" "Funny, I don't remember any tattoo parlors in Storybrooke...or the Enchanted Forest for that matter." he said, raising his eyes.
"Then she got through...but how?" Emma asked, pulling on her coat.
At the hospital, the fairies were all abuzz with talk about her. Mary-Margaret with her soft eyes and dark hair stood, waiting for Emma and David. Just before they approached, she assured Granny that she would be home soon.
"Emma! Thank God you're here!" She threw her arms around Emma and Emma was quite taken aback. "Thanks? Now where is this girl?" Mary-Margaret released her daughter and glanced behind her into the Intensive Care Ward.
Dr. Whale along with another nurse were standing over her. "We need to talk to her as soon as possible." Emma said, shifting uncomfortably. Dr. Whale looked up and met her eyes.
Finishing his procedure, he muttered something to the nurse and walked towards them. After letting the door fall shut behind him, he spoke.
"She is resting now. I don't know what came over her. Maybe a fit. She was horribly dehydrated, and starved by the looks of it." he said, a curious sadness to his voice.
"Did she say anything?" Emma asked quickly. Dr. Whale shook his head and then looked to Mary-Margaret whom had found her. "No, she was gone when I got to her."
"Funny, I have treated every person in this town at least once, I've never seen her before." He looked over his shoulder at the figure that lay underneath the white hospital blanket.
"Let me know as soon as she wakes up." Emma said, grabbing her cell phone.
Alice
I awoke to darkness. A piercing laugh cut through the fog that clouded my vision. It was one I knew all too well. I tried to lift my arms or my legs, anything to get me away from her. I could feel my own heart beating faster and faster as her voice rang through my head.
"You thought you could run forever? I am coming for you!"
Just as I expected her to seize me, two bright blue orbs jumped through the darkness at me and I felt...calm. I could feel my blood start to slow as other voices started to fill my ears.
"Vitals are moving back to normal. Nurse, please take these away." My eyes shot open and I was instantly blinded by bright, white light.
Slowly, figures began to make themselves out in the room I was in. As the fuzziness eluded my vision, the peace I had just experienced began to run along with it.
"It's alright. You're alright." A soft, sweet voice accompanied a hand on my arm. "What just happened to her?" Another voice, this one quieter asked.
"I'm not sure. She apparently went into cardiac arrest, but now it's as if it never even happened." a man's voice joined. "Do you know where you are?"I lifted my eyes to see a beautiful woman with hazel eyes.
"I-um-." She looked from me and then back to meet my eyes. "It's alright. You are safe here." she comforted, rubbing my hand gently. "S-Storybrooke. That's where I am." I croaked, dropping my eyes.
"Wait-uh-what's your name?" The woman had a desperate look in her eyes. "Alice. My name is Alice." I said quickly, sitting up.
"Woah, okay. Calm down." The phantom voice now connected with a blonde who approached me quickly. "I-I have to find my parents." I said, trying to uncover myself. "You're not going anywhere."
A man with dark blonde hair said, pushing me back down in the bed. The dark haired woman scolded him with her eyes and muttered something to him before he left.
"Please, I need to find them." I said, exhaustion plaguing my voice. "Okay, what are their names?" the blonde asked. I shook my head.
"I came here to find them." My eyes started to droop. The blonde began to speak and the brunette quieted her. "I'll stay with her. Tell David to get home with Neal."
Darkness consumed me once more and all I could see were those orbs.
"Did you have a good day at school, darling?" Jefferson asked as he and his daughter Grace walked down Main Street. He had his coat collar pulled up and held the umbrella over the golden head of his daughter.
"Yes, Papa. We made butterflies today!" she gushed and then went on to tell him all about the parts of a butterfly.
Jefferson listened intently, watching every move his daughter made. She was a gift, a wonderful prize that he had won back after the curse had broken and he was determined to keep her as close as possible.
"Papa, what's going on?" He looked up to see Tiny, one of the giants whom had helped plant the magic beans carrying a figure. He didn't want to upset Grace and urged her away from the crowd, telling her it was nothing to worry herself over.
But even as Jefferson hurried away, anxious to get his daughter home where she was safe, he couldn't help but glance back and noticed the curtain of dark hair that disappeared as Tiny made his way down the street.
