Alice

I awoke to something soft batting my nose and when I opened my eyes, I met two green ones.

Dinah was standing on my chest, her paw dangerously close to my face. I lifted her off of me and sat up, taking in the soft light that streamed through the curtains. I was in Jefferson's house...but why?

The memories of the previous night came flooding back to me and I felt as if I would faint if I didn't stand. I headed downstairs and followed voices into the large kitchen.

"Oh Alice, you're awake." Jefferson said, turning to me from the stove. "We were just making breakfast, what would you like?" he asked as I took my seat across from Grace who studied her book.

"Whatever you have is fine." I said softly. Jefferson approached the table with three plates that contained bacon and eggs. My stomach rumbled as Grace dropped the book and looked at her plate.

"What's wrong sweetheart?" Jefferson asked. "I think I wanna be a vegan. We don't eat this stuff." "Alright, what would you like instead?" Jefferson asked, pulling his plate over to her. "I can get toast Papa, it's fine." she said, standing.

"Are you sure? You know that's not enough to keep you going?" "I'll be fine." she assured, kissing the top of his head. I dropped my eyes and took a sip of my tea.

"Well I hope you like it. Sometimes I don't know what goes on in her head." he said, giving a nervous smile.

"Jefferson." "Yes." he said, no sooner had I finished the last syllable in his name. "I appreciate your kindness. That is for letting me stay." He nodded.

"Today, if you are feeling well enough, I figured we would go to the library and perhaps work more to find your father...that is unless Cruella knows that." I dropped my fork with a clang on my plate.

"Cruella isn't my real mother, and any liaisons she had certainly do not have to do with me." He looked taken aback as Grace appeared with a plate. "I'm sorry...well we will be looking for both your parents then." I nodded.

"After that I think I will head back to Granny's," "I already had Ruby drop your things by this morning." Jefferson said, taking a sip of his tea. "M-My things?" "Yes, Emma and Regina figured it is best if you stay here...at least until this blows over." I dropped my eyes.

"Do you not like it here?" Grace asked softly, looking up from her book. "Grace, of course I love it here...I just don't want to pry."

"You aren't-trust me. This is the happiest we both have been in a long time." Jefferson met Grace's eyes and returned her smile. Then both pairs fell on me.

"Oh alright...but only until this whole mess is sorted out."

Emma woke early and met Regina outside of her mother's home. "Where to, Emma?" Regina asked, glaring up at the cold gray sky.

Emma unfurled a map of Storybrooke and looked it over. "We need to locate Cruella and where she is staying. Then we need to ask her what's going on." "Give me a second." Regina said, holding her hand over the map. A glint of light appeared in the woods that surrounded town.

"Alright, that's where we'll go."

Emma pulled up to the house and turned off her Volkswagen Bug. "Hey, isn't this house the one that we found Grace in?" Regina looked through the windshield and tried to make sense of the better-looking mansion.

"Still looks awful." Regina commented as they got out and approached the house. "Emma be careful, she has dogs." Emma looked back at her and nodded.

Emma wasn't much of an animal person, or one for companionship at all. She took a deep breath and pounded three times on the old wooden door. She glanced back at Regina who returned her look.

She knocked again and sighed.

"Let's check around back." She was just about to head back when a crash sounded and a low voice.

"Oh alright, I'm coming!" Cruella appeared, her hair a mess and her large fur coat hanging around her shoulders.

"This had better be good for ten in the morning." Cruella said, leaning against the door frame. "Nice house." Emma commented.

"Do you like it? My own Hell Hall, I can't believe it made it all the way here." "We're here to talk about Alice." Cruella scoffed and crossed her arms.

"Where is her father?" Regina asked. "Her father? Like I would know." "Well you're her mother, you should know who you slept with." Emma spat.

"Oh no darling. You have it all wrong. I am not her biological mother." Emma and Regina shared a look.

"Ghastly little beast couldn't have possibly come from me." "How'd you find her?" Emma was becoming annoyed.

"I found her on the side of the road. I only kept her out of pity. Look, I have no idea who her real parents are." Emma shoved her hand in her pocket and remembered the necklace Alice had given her to help.

She held it up, suspended from her middle finger.

"Did you give this to her? She claims that she has had for awhile." Cruella looked taken aback. Emma remembered her superpower and watched Cruella intently.

"I don't know. Now may it get back to my morning?"

"Be our guest, but you will remain open to any questions we have." Regina said warningly.

"Of course darling. Why would anyone want to keep her away?"
