Chapter 11

Time had no meaning, not to me, not in that moment. I had never been in a fight. I had never seen a fight besides the scripted ones on TV. But there were a whole ton of things I had never done before that I had done in the past week. Everything slowed down as I jumped over Lillianne, Foley and Kade. Somehow, I was able to make it over all three of them by only jumping, but I was willing to bet a lot that there were other forces in play at that moment, like my superpowers.

"So you finally figured something out," Brittney said as I landed. "I thought you were going to blow yourself up, but whatever. This works so much better."

"Evil person being vague about their plans cliché," I mumbled to myself.

"It's better than the villain telling the hero all of their plans," Brittney replied. "And I'm not the villain." I heard a crash and looked behind me. Kade, Foley, Lillianne and Cameron were all fighting. "We should probably take our little argument somewhere else." She held out her hand. "Would you like to do it, or do you want me to?"

"Aren't you here to kill me or something?" I crossed my arms.

She shook her head. "No. I already told you. I'm looking for something, and you're the only one who can find it."

I laughed. "I'm not the only one who can find it."

"You don't even know what it is." She grabbed my wrist and suddenly we were in some sort of science lab. "I was getting impatient."

"Clearly," I agreed as I looked around. "Is this yours?"

She nodded. "I had a life before I was devoted to supernatural and paranormal occurrences."

"Supernatural and paranormal?"

"Yep." She grabbed something off of one of the desks. "Aliens, ghosts," she paused and smiled at me, "superheroes. You name it, I've basically researched it."

"So all of that's real?"

"Oh yeah. There's this one girl I've found that her family was cursed a long time ago and she has the key to end it but she doesn't even realize it because she doesn't even know the country that her family ruled still exists."

"What?" I asked.

"And then there's this other girl who has the power to withstand any supernatural power, and she's doing pretty well right now as a small-scale thief. And another one who found a genie's bottle at a school fundraiser. She was pretty smart with her wishes."

"And you've talked to all of these people?"

"No, I've only talked to you. You're the only one who can help me."

"How I am supposed to trust you? I've heard what you've done."

"From who? Kade? He's only trying to 'help' you because he's in trouble with the government. Foley ran away from them, and the deal was if the three of them can keep Foley under control and protected until Kade turns 18, they can be her legal guardians, since I'm not exactly in good relations with them."

"Because you killed someone," I stated.

"But listen to me, Courtney. Kade is only doing this so he can get Foley back so they can all live together. The government doesn't know about Foley's powers, and I didn't either, for a while. None of them are in this to help you."

"Neither are you."

"I can keep you safe. I know more about this side of the world than anyone else. I can help you through this."
