Valentina's POV

"You have to understand the silent brothers aren't like us." Jace said as we were walking to the entrance of the city of bones.

"What they don't have your charm and people skills?" I asked and Jace rolled his eyes while smiling.

"Yeah, most people do. Brothers communicate without using words, using just their thoughts." Jace explains and I look at him with a confused expression, that doesn't sound scary at all. In fact it sounds really cool.

"It doesn't sound so bad." Clary intervenes as she walks up beside me.

"Don't let their silence fool you. They'll hold the soul sword to both of your heads and with its blade, carve the truth from your mind." My eyes widen at what he says and I suddenly think coming to the silent brothers was a bad idea.

"If you two are not strong enough you will die." Jace finishes.

"I take it back, that sounds level ten bad." Clary sighs and I nod agreeing with her.

"Val, Clary, you should know the pain will be excruciating, you don't have to do-!" He was cut off by Clary's voice.

"We'll do anything." She said and I touched her shoulder while nodding.

"Yeah, we'll walk through fire, battle demons, whatever it takes for us to get our mother back." I say in a firm tone.

"We can't... no we won't lose her." Clary looks at me and Jace and I give her a small smile. My little sister is growing up so fast.

"We won't." Jace looks at both of us in our eyes and then walks away with us following close behind.

When we arrive Clary and I both see the skeleton on a door which was surrounded by a cave-like building.

"We can do this." I muttered to Clary and Simon came up to both of us.

"Yeah, you both can. You're both Clary and Valentina frickin' Fray you girls can do anything." I smiled at Simon's attempt to build our courage.

Simon being his curious self went ahead to walk inside when Jace stopped him.

"Alright holdup." He said and Simon rolled his eyes.

"Surprise, surprise. No mundane's allowed just like in the training room, right? Wrong!" I could tell by his voice that Simon was becoming irritated by Jace.

"I've seen every horror movie ever made and the funny best friend who gets left behind... dead man." I nod agreeing with Simon.

"He's right I always watched them with him and it's either the funny best friend or the black guy..." (I didn't write this to be racist but it's true from every horror movie I've seen so far) I comment.

Isabelle laughs as Jace looks toward the door and rolls his eyes, "You're not that funny, but by all means go ahead." Jace motioned and Simon looked at me and I shrugged.

I've never been here before so I don't know whose lying or whose telling the truth. When Simon as already half way there Jace decided to stop him again.

"The minute you enter you'll die." He calls out to Simon and Simon turns around.

"The problem is, now I don't trust you." Then oh wondrous Alec decides now is a great time to join the conversation.

"He's not lying." Alec says and Isabelle smiles.

"He was before."

Alec ignores his sister and continues with the explanation, "The rune energy in the city of bones will kill any mundane who dares to enter so by all means, please." Alec uses his hands to motion him towards the door.
