Chapter Nine:

Skylerk and Lindsey’s wedding was definitely something that I will always remember. It was a little grand, so to speak. But it was also a clear picture of true love itself. No regrets, no forceful measures, just two hearts who were more than happy to be joined forever. I was beyond blessed to have witnessed such a moment.

Sam and I sat together during the reception. And as she glanced at the people one by one, I told her who they were,

“Those people are my best friends, that guy used to bully me a lot—but now we’re pretty cool. And those right there are my cousins.” She was surprised to see how the place was jam-packed with Hollywood stars too—like literally Hollywood stars. Because if I haven’t told this thing to you before, let me take this time to explain.

Skylerk and I were both raised in a family of famous people. Sky has like eight more siblings, and during that time, all of them—except for him and his youngest sister, Haley—were Hollywood stars. From his eldest brother, Kelly, who won his first Oscar when was like fifteen, to his twin brother Ashlee, who have starred in many movies, and is also a part of a Grammy Award winning band. Both of our parents were big time writers and producers in Hollywood and our grandparents were former ambassadors as well. I mean, even my siblings were Stars! Yes, Stars! And this, just so you know, overwhelmed Samantha.

“There is nothing to be worried about, you know. They’re good people,” I assured her. “Come, I’ll introduce them to you.”

“Wait, what?”

“Just come.”

We stood up from our table as I told every person there who Samantha was. I could tell that she was nervous. Yet at the same time, I could tell that she was enjoying herself too. I would smile whenever I’d hear her laugh. Samantha looked beautiful that night. And it made me want to kiss her so much. But then again, every time I would feel the urge to do so, I will just to my best to shake it off. She wanted me to wait. And her lips once again meeting mine is something that is worth the wait. And I was willing to wait.

It has been an old family tradition of ours that in every occasion, people and/or bands were required to sing. Because since we came from a very—and I mean VERY—musical family, we rarely use pre-recorded songs to keep the party going. For them, it always has to be live. It always has to have that “concert like” feel. Which was nerve wracking and fun at the same time. Nerve wracking for us, the performers and the musicians, fun for all of the guests.

As one of Skylerk’s best friends and of course, best cousins, I too, was required to sing a song or two. Personally, it was always a challenge to sing in family events like mine, partly because more often than not, we were asked to sing an original song, mostly because almost every single one in my family is a musical genius. They can tell if you’ve missed a note or a little off key, even in their sleep.

As a young kid, doing all of these stuff didn’t really quite make sense to me, but now…now that I’m a lot older, I began to get it. They were only trying to train us to be better artists. And it’s really nice to know how much they are willing to get the best out of us no matter what.

I took a huge breath when my name was finally called and as I stood up, I felt everyone’s eyes on me. Here goes nothing, I say.

Now, this song was supposed to be in dedication for the bride and groom, but how can you write a love song without someone inspiring you in the first place? So, as I stood there in front of everybody, I told them that this song was not only for Skylerk and Lindsey, but was also for the beautiful girl who was seated next to me, my Samantha.

Sam’s eyes followed me as I got off the stage. Her grin was almost up to her ears and that made me very happy. She kissed my cheek as soon as I sat down.
