(Honeypaw ^^^^)
Chapter Six
Honeypaw tripped on a tree root. She fell facefirst into another tree, her prey flying everywhere.
Skypaw gasped and skidded to a stop. She swiveled around, dropped her prey and rushed to Honeypaw's side. "Honeypaw!"
There was a gash on the side of Honeypaw's head, bleeding heavily. Her eyes were closed. Honeypaw's breathing was shallow.
Skypaw pressed a paw to her mouth and quickly hoisted Honeypaw onto her back. She hurried back to camp.
When she burst into camp, everyone gasped and rushed towards her. But Skypaw pushed them aside and ran into the medicine cat den.
Patchleaf immediately came over and started inspecting Honeypaw. Then without a word she started grabbing different herbs and pressing them on Honeypaw's head. The only herb Skypaw really recognized was cobwebs.
"So, what happened to her?" Patchleaf casually asked as she worked.
"We just finished hunting and Honeypaw suggested that we have a race. I agreed, and we raced. But Honeypaw tripped and hit her head on a tree. Then I ran to camp and yeah." Skypaw explained.
"Mm..." Patchleaf muttered absentmindedly. "Hey, Silverpaw?"
"Skypaw." Skypaw corrected. "And yes?"
"Um... could you...?" Patchleaf gestured towards the exit.
"Oh. Gotcha." Skypaw shot her a nervous grin and padded out.
As soon as she emerged, Skypaw was surrounded by cats asking about Honeypaw.
"Is she okay?" One cat asked.
"MY KIIIITTTTT!" Tabbyheart wailed. Umm.... yeah...
"My apprentice!" A speckled shecat wailed.
"Is she dead mommy?" A naive kit asked his mother.
"No, Waterkit." A gray shecat whispered.
"Okay okay!" Skypaw yowled. "Honeypaw is not dead! Patchleaf is treating her right now!"
"Oh whew, if Patchleaf is doing it, then we're fine." The clan let out a big sigh of relief and ambled off.
Skypaw rolled her eyes and started to wait for Patchleaf's good news.
-------------------------------------------
It was nearly moonhigh when Patchleaf finally called out. Skypaw had started nodding off when Patchleaf's voice rang across the clearing. "Silverpaw!"
It took a little while for Skypaw to realize that Silverpaw was her and that Patchleaf was referring to her.
Skypaw got up and ran to the medicine cat den, shaking off the sleep.
"Good, your here." Patchleaf sighed. "Look, she's awake."
Skypaw rushed to Honeypaw's nest.
Honeypaw's hazel eyes were open and unfocused.
"Hey Seeeeeeeeelvirpow...." Honeypaw slurred.
"Umm, what's wrong with her?" Skypaw asked Patchleaf.
"Well, she's still a little delirious. Honeypaw should be better in a few sunrises." Patchleaf reported.
"Mm." Skypaw said. "Hey, can you get her stop playing with my tail?"
Honeypaw was pushing and twirling Skypaw's tail like a kit would do and it was starting to get annoying.
"Oh." Patchleaf gently pushed Honeypaw's paw away, who pouted.
"Awwwweee cume un Potchlef... leet meu hav fuon..." Honeypaw tried to get up. "Wouh... deezy..."
Skypaw sighed and leaned against her as support. Honeypaw nodded her thanks. "Let's get to bed now Honeypaw."
"Okey Seeelvirpow..."
--------------------------------------
Skypaw was awoken by loud, shril wailing.
Honeypaw was thrashing around in her nest. The other apprentices had moved away, into the corners and was looking at Honeypaw's writhing form with fear.
"Honeypaw!" Skypaw yelped and scrabbled foward. She tried to calm her down but Honeypaw just kept flailing around and yelling.
"NO! NO NO NO NO!" Honeypaw kept screaming, tears pushing out the corners of her eyes.
"Honeypaw! Calm down!" Skypaw wailed. She tried sitting on her to try and stop her thrashing.
No such luck.
Other cats had started wake up and look in fear into the apprentice den.
"HONEYPAW! PLEASE!" Skypaw cried.
Finally, Patchleaf rushed in with a pawful of poppy seeds.
Skypaw grabbed them and shoved a few in Honeypaw's mouth, then forced her to chew and swallow.
Then, as quick as she had started freaking out, she became quiet again, snoring on the scraps of her nest, which was scattered everywhere.
The apprentices sighed and settled back into their nests.
Everyone went back to their dens and started to sleep again.
Skypaw laid back down, unsettled. Why had Honeypaw freaked out like that?
Before she was so delirious and loopy.
But now......
What had caused her crazed state? Was it a one time thing? Or would it happen again?
Skypaw didn't know.
But she would soon find out.
