Chapter Seven
When Skypaw woke up, Honeypaw was gone. She sat up in fright and rushed out, then she sighed in relief.
Honeypaw was with Patchleaf, wobbling a bit.
She rushed over to talk to Patchleaf and Honeypaw. "Hey guys! Good morning!"
"Gute moorng." Honeypaw giggled.
"Hello. Honeypaw is getting better. A little bit. But she is getting better." Patchleaf said optimistically.
"Cool. So, can she go on any apprentice duties?" Skypaw asked.
"Well, it depends on what it is. If its battle training, then its an absolute no. Hunting, maybe. Gathering moss, sure." Patchleaf shrugged.
"I'll go ask her mentor." Skypaw dipped her head then slunk off towards the same speckled shecat from yesterday.
"Oh, hello Silverpaw." The shecat smiled at her.
"Umm hello.... hello." Skypaw did not want to screw up her name.
"It's Speckleclaw." Speckleclaw laughed. "I can't believe you forgot me!"
Skypaw rubbed her head sheepishly. "Sorry ever since I fainted, I've had trouble remembering things."
Speckleclaw's expression softened. "It's fine."
"So, anyway, what apprentice duties are you planning to do with Honeypaw?" Skypaw asked.
"None. She is injured so I suspected that Patchleaf would not allow her to indulge in any." Speckleclaw spoke so formally. One of the only times she had lost her composure was last night.
"Actually, Patchleaf said that as long as the duty might not injure her more thoroughly, then she can."
"Really?!" Speckleclaw's eyes brightened. "Well, time to gather moss for the elders!"
Speckleclaw took off, and as she passed by Patchleaf and Honeypaw, she grabbed Honeypaw and continued her way into the forest.
Skypaw laughed. They were the perfect mentor and apprentice.
"You have a pretty laugh." A voice said behind her.
Skypaw pivoted around and saw a light brown tom with vibrant green eyes. "T-thanks."
"No problem. But you really do. Laugh more often." The tom padded off.
Skypaw felt so weird. Fluttering motions in her stomach, legs becoming wobbly, AH WAIT A MINUTE.
GREAT.
JUST GREAT.
"Silverpaw" must have had a crush on that tom before Skypaw started inhabiting her body.
Uggghhhhhhh.
NOOOOOOOOOO! Skypaw had always considered crushes stupid, and vowed to never "crush" on anybody.
Drip. Drip.
Skypaw sneezed. A raindrop had landed on her snout.
........... raindrops?
'It was raining.' And as soon as she thought that, sheets and showers of rain poured down.
Everyone yowled at the sudden downpour. Queens grabbed their kits and shoved them inside the nursery, elders huddled together, Lakestar worriedly spoke with the deputy, and apprentices yelped and took cover in the apprentice den.
Skypaw shivered inside the den, and moved closer to Honeypaw, who was also shivering and wet to the bone.
"Hey. Mind if I join your huddle?" The same tom as before asked them, the rain had dragged down his fur making him look funny.
The same feeling erupted. Butterflies and weak knees. Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
"S-shur...." Honeypaw stuttered. She had the same starstruck expression as Skypaw did (she saw her reflection in a puddle).
Honeypaw liked him too.
A different feeling started to buzz around. Skypaw, no Silverpaw was jealous. Of her own sister. Harsh.
"So, you feeling any better Honeypaw?" The tom said, trying to ease the tension in the air.
"Uom, a litel biet." Honeypaw said, eyes wide.
Same feeling, jealousy. Skypaw did not like this.
"Good, we wouldn't want our sweet little honeysuckle to shrivel up." The tom said sweetly and Honeypaw blushed. "Tancks..."
More jealousy, but more intense then before. Skypaw was grinding her teeth together.
"Oh, hey Silverpaw." The tom said. He had just noticed her now?!
More unexplainable emotions."Hi." Skypaw said through gritted teeth.
"Well, I need to talk to my sister, bye!" He said and padded over to a small, lithe gray tabby with the same eyes.
"Bei Loogpow!" Logpaw. So that was his name...
Honeypaw sighed dreamily. "Du yuo thunk hie lieks mei?"
Skypaw swallowed her pride, jealousy and love to be a good fake (sorta) "sister". "Of course."
Honeypaw sighed again.
Skypaw closed her eyes and laid down. She wanted all the jealous thoughts out of her head. Gone forever. She didn't want to be in love anymore.
It sucked.
But as her brother used to say,"Life always sucks, you just have to find a way to make it seem un-sucky."
.............. Skypaw missed her gray little whack-a-doodle. And her cheery little optimist.
She missed them so much.
She hated this stupid fox dung curse.
She hated Badgerpaw.
She hated Badgerpaw (again).
And most of all, she hated Starclan. For placing this horrible, mouse brained, mouse and fox dung curse on her, an innocent bystander.
Skypaw didn't notice that she was crying until Honeypaw nudged her.
"Hei. Wi yuo creiing?" Honeypaw asked gently.
Skypaw opened her eyes and touched the wet trails left by the salty drops of water.
She was crying.
She couldn't help it.
She couldn't control it.
She had no dominion over her tears.
They just flowed when they felt like it.
She couldn't stop them.
Nothing could stop them.
