Mariah threw the last of her things into a suitcase. She had to go back to New York to promote her album and her next single, Hero. Michael was having a difficult time with her impending departure, to say the least.
Michael grabbed her hand. "Do you really have to go?"
She gave him a kiss and closed the suitcase. "Unfortunately. I'll be back by the end of October, I promise."
She raised an eyebrow as he wrapped his arms around her waist. "Please don't go."
"I have to, Leopard." She said. "I'll call you everyday until I come back."
He sighed. "Okay. Can you promise me something, though?"
"Anything." She replied.
"If anyone asks you about this whole situation, that you'll stay out of it."
"Stay out of it? If anything, I'm in the middle of it." She protested.
Michael sighed. "I'm not going to drag you down with me, okay?"
"Guess what? I don't care what anyone thinks. If they ask me anything, I'm going to tell the truth. If they won't support me and my music because I'm telling the truth, then I don't want to be a singer. You're more important to me than my career, I can always make another album, but there'll never be another you." She replied.
"Why are you saying it like I'm dying?"
She laughed. "You know what I meant."
He pulled her into an embrace. "I still don't want you to go."
"I know, but I have to." She gave him a passionate kiss and he pulled her into his lap.
"What time do you have to be at the airport?" He asked.
She looked over her shoulder. "We've got an hour, make it count."
He smirked and laid her down on the bed. "Don't have to tell me twice."

Two AM.
Three AM.
Four AM.
Michael threw his pillow across the room in frustration. He couldn't sleep and he was trying to wean himself off his painkillers after he woke up on the floor with Mariah next to him and couldn't remember why. It hadn't been hard while Mariah was with him, but without her by his side he was struggling.
He could hear rain beating on the window, a sound that would normally lull him to sleep, but instead distracted him. He couldn't call Mariah since she'd be out late tonight, and her absence left him cold inside.
He sat up and grabbed a pen and paper to write. He had no real intention in mind, just writing to distract himself from the loneliness he felt.
I was wandering in the rain
Mask of life, feelin' insane
Swift and sudden fall from grace
Sunny days seem far away
Kremlin's shadow belittlin' me
Stalin's tomb won't let me be
On and on and on it came
Wish the rain would just let me
He glanced out of the window and let out a sigh.
How does it feel (How does it feel)
How does it feel
How does it feel
When you're alone
And you're cold inside
Here abandoned in my fame
Armageddon of the brain
KGB was doggin' me
Take my name and just let me be
Then a beggar boy called my name
Happy days will drown the pain
On and on and on it came
And again, and again, and again
Take my name and just let me be
