December 25th, 1993
"Mimi!" Michael called. "What are you doing?"
Mariah poked her head out of the kitchen. "I'm cooking dinner. What's up?"
"Monroe is trying to walk, I think she's gonna do it this time." He said.
Mariah smiled and joined Michael on the living room floor with their eighteen month old daughter. Monroe looked like Mariah: curly sandy brown hair and pale skin, with Michael's beautiful eyes.
"Come on Roe." Michael said. "You can do it baby girl."
Monroe, who was clinging to the couch, reached a hand out to Michael. "Daddy."
Michael held out his arms. "Come on."
Mariah's smile widened as her daughter let go of the couch and wobbled into Michael's arms. She clapped, causing Monroe to giggle. "That's my baby."
Monroe leaned over to give Mariah a kiss on the cheek. "Mommy."
Michael grinned at her. "That's right Monroe, that's your mommy."
"Love mommy." Monroe said, causing Michael to raise an eyebrow.
"Do you love daddy?" Mariah asked.
Monroe hugged Michael. "Yes."
Michael frowned at Mariah. "If only you loved me too."
"Mariah! Mariah, get up!"
She groaned, pushing Tommy's hand away. She wanted to sleep a few minutes longer, hoping to get some energy. He had noticed that Mariah was acting a little off, but he hadn't figured out that she was pregnant yet.
She found herself being yanked out of bed and looking into Tommy's earnest face.
He let her go and Mariah rubbed her arm, noticing a red mark. "You hurt me."
His eyes softened and he rubbed her arm gently. "I'm sorry Mariah. I'm just a little excited, that's all. It's our first Christmas together as husband and wife."
She forced a smile. "You're right. Let me go shower and I'll meet you downstairs."
"Of course. Anything for you." He replied and left the room.
She looked into the mirror and rubbed her stomach, wondering how long it would be until she started showing. She had last had sex with Michael at the end of October, meaning she was almost two months pregnant. She could only hide her pregnancy for so long; her slender figure made a baby bump much more obvious.
After showering, she went downstairs where Tommy was waiting for her at the table. She sat at her seat and started on the vegan pancakes Tommy had prepared for her. He was a vegetarian and since he cooked, so was Mariah. Although she had no complaints against Tommy's cooking, he had nothing on Michael's french toast.
However, that morning she wasn't hungry for much of anything.
"Sweetheart, you haven't touched your breakfast."Tommy observed. "Do you want something else?"
She shook her head. "No, I'm just not very hungry this morning."
"Is the smell bothering you?" He inquired sharply.
"W-what? Why would the smell bother me?" Mariah asked.
Tommy shrugged. "You've been acting a little strange lately, that's all. I want you to be comfortable here."
