"Jesus?" Brandon muttered quietly trying to come to terms that it was actually his brother.
Callie felt her heart drop with relief as she breathed out heavily as if she'd been holding her breath for minutes. She technically did.
She couldn't move or talk or think. She was frozen. Frozen with fear and the thought that just seconds ago she was almost certain she was going to die. That the mystery shooter man would find them and that would be it. Seventeen years of fighting for happiness and freedom would come to an end in the corner of some dusty, paint scented room.
"You guys ok?" Jesus asked as he squatted down and sat on his heels staring at the two pale faces. "I saw you guys run in here?"
"Yeah no, we, we ah- we saw him." Brandon replied with a quiver in his tone. He tried to put on a good face but he two felt scared and frozen.
Callie still gripped at Brandon's hand. Her knuckles were white from from how hard she squeezed. Brandon didn't mind though. He was her comfort and she was his.
"Where's Mariana?" Brandon asked his voice becoming stronger.
Jesus swallowed. "She's in re office with Lena."
"Why aren't you there?" Brandon questioned confused by his current location.
"I, I saw you guys and I wanted to see if you were ok?"
Brandon gave a small weak smile, he was impressed by his courage, then gripped the back of Jesus' neck with his free hand.
Jesus nodded then noticed Callie.
Callie's eyes were stuck staring at the ground next to a mop head.
Jesus followed her stare in confusion than looked back to her then to Brandon.
Brandon caught his concerned look by the why his facial expression was shadowed in the light.
He looked over to Callie.
"Callie?" Brandon muttered.
No reply. She continued to stare down at the ground like she was lifeless.
Brandon frowned.
"Callie?,hey, Callie?" He continued trying to look directly into her eyes and letting his hand pull from hers.
He planted his hands on her shoulders and kneeled down right in front of her trying to shake her back to reality.
"Callie" he whispered louder.
Callie's eyes flinch then she looked up at him.
"I'm ok." She nodded quietly. Brandon knew she wasn't.
"If we leave now Nick will-" Jesus began but Brandon cut him off.
"Nick?"
Jesus clenched his jaw. "Yeah, Nicks the one doing all this."
Brandon's lips parted in disbelief. He hadn't been close with Nick, but he seemed nice enough to not shoot up a school.
"But why would Nick.." Brandon began but his voice faded away as he tried to think of the possibilities.
"I don't know but-"
"Because of Mariana?" Callie interrupted.
They both looked to her half stunned by the idea of the reason someone would go around shooting people because of their sister and the other half surprised at her sudden burst of thought.
"No, think about it." Callie began as if she had just been hit with an epiphany.
"Mariana and Nick were together right."
"Mariana gets back with Mat." Brandon adds in an almost whisper as his eyes widen realising where Callie's theory was going.
"And what? Nick sees so he shoots up an entire high school?" Jesus adds sarcastically. It was nice to know someone still had their charismatic charm.
"No." Callie starts again as she looks up at the two boys before her. "Not entire school.."
Brandon tenses up. "He's going after Mat."
They all stop for a second as an eerie silence creeps in.
Brandon looks to Callie then to Jesus in fear.
"We have to go." Brandon gets up from the ground followed by Jesus.
Callie swallows hard as the thought of leaving the room hits her.
She gets up slowly then grabs the shelf with her hand trying to steady her.
Brandon turned and notices her shakiness.
"Keep going. I'll take Callie." Brandon States as he steps around Jesus to where they once were.
Callie looked up at him.
"We're ok. It'll be ok."
Callie nods then steps forward. Brandon places his hand on her lower back and guides her to the door where Jesus was waiting, peeking through the tiny crack trying to see.
"We're good." Jesus said strongly.
This situation fired him up. He was strong and brave, two traits that the three needed most.
Brandon looked down at Callie feeling the same emotion she was.
He breathed in deeply trying to slow his heart rate.
Jesus pulled the door open slowly and stuck is head out.
Callie blinked back tears them made her move.
She followed Jesus out of the room and into the lit hallway.
She hadn't even turned to see if Brandon was following she just ran for her life to the other side, to the other deep empty hallway.
Jesus stopped and stood straight back against the set of lockers as his heart raced and his head spun.
Callie did the same.
Her heart began to slowly sink when she noticed Brandon wasn't by her side.
She turned her head quickly just as Brandon stepped from the janitors room.
When he was half way another gun shot sounded and Brandon lowered his head and continued running.
Jesus breathed in deep, shook his head then pushed himself off the lockers and continued tuning down the corridors.
The three victorious and brave teenagers ran for they're lives as the person they thought they knew was firing bullets at them.
Once the office came into view they all began to run faster.
Jesus pushed open the door and fell inside landing face first on the carpet. Callie almost did the same, except she just sat down on the floor and ducked instantly.
Brandon closed the door after them and slid down it landing in his backside with his body shaking heavily.
Callie looked over to him and she felt her heart drop in her chest.
"Brandon" she muttered with wide eyes as she began to crawl over to him.
Brandon breathed heavily with his mouth open gaping for air with his eyes shut.
"Brandon, you're bleeding" Callie reported with a concerned look.
Brandon's eyes opened suddenly as he looked down at his body searching for this so called "bleeding".
"What? where?" He asked as he scanned his chest and his legs.
Callie knelt down in front of him the same way he did to her and placed her finger tips on his shoulder.
Brandon looked down at his arm and saw a patch of blood staining his jacket.
It couldn't of been that bad since he hadn't even felt it.
"Take off your jacket." Callie said strongly.
Brandon looked at her a little confused.
Jesus got ups from the floor and sat next to Callie staring at Brandon too.
"Brandon." Jesus ordered.
Brandon slid his jacket off his shoulders and that's when the pain set in.
"Ahh." He groaned softly.
Callie tugged at it until it was all the way off. She leaned in closer examining his wound.
It wasn't that bad but it still looked concerning. The bullet had just kissed his upper arm. If he was a second slower it would've been much worse.
The blood ran down his arm to his elbow where it dripped onto the floor.
"You need to go to the hospital." Callie said nervously.
Brandon placed his other hand on his arm to try to stop the bleeding, it didn't help to much.
"Does it hurt?" Jesus asked.
"Um, kinda, yeah." Brandon tried to laugh but nothing really came out but breath.
Brandon looked past Callie and Jesus and frowned.
"Hey didn't you say Mariana was here?"
They all turned and looked around the office. Not a soul was in sight.
"I did." Jesus said sounding confused. "And mama and Monte and some other girls..."
"Then where the hell did they go?" Brandon whispered.
