I woke up the next morning in a sorry hurry. I had 30 minutes to get ready before I had to be off if I didn't want to miss my first period on the last day. Last day before my last, senior year. I thought to myself with agony. I still wanted to be a child.
Hurriedly, I jumped into my worn out, ripped mom jeans and threw a loose t-shirt that had "happy" printed on the front of it. Very ironic.
I ran downstairs and poured myself a coffee, usually I'd go for the healthier option and take the time to make myself a smoothie but the problem was, I had no time.
"Morning mom!" I went up to her and kissed her on the cheek, she was also in a hurry.
"Morning Jules, have a nice day lovely I'll see you later!" She laughed and jogged out of the house in her high heels. What a woman.
In between sips of coffee, I slid my superstars on and headed for the door too; grabbing my bag and keys on the way. I did a little pocket tap dance to check if I had everything, keys, phone, money, books...good.
I hopped into my car and turned the engine on.
I really didn't want to do this day, but I knew if I got through it I would have another 2 months to lie and be lazy, which was exactly what I needed. I didn't want to face Chase and the curious kids at school either, so I decided to make a game plan for entering school.
I would park as close to the school doors as possible, head straight to my locker to put my bag away and head straight to first period, fine art.
If anyone tried to stop me I'd probably spill my coffee onto them. Fuck that.
-
It was the middle of art and I had settled down and started to finish off my term project. I had gotten in on time, if anyone was wondering, and no one stopped me either as I had a stone cold glare on my face that had 'come close and I'll fuck you up' written all across it.
My project was almost finished and I felt quite proud of myself, I admired it while finishing up and cleaning.
The subject of the project was sorrow, aka things that make you sad. It was deep but I enjoyed it.
I had first sketched out my dad, from memory and tried to include all the little details that I could remember about him. Then I painted it with watercolours, it was quite a dark painting, I tried enhancing the 'sorrow' from the deep blues and dark, mysterious red's I had used. Finally, I outlined his features in white, symbolising the good human he was. To me, it looked fantastic.
I had better get an A for it.
-
I carried on throughout the rest of the day, enjoying only my art and history periods. My eighth, calculus, which sucked since I was forced to sit behind Chase. He kept turning back but I held my head low and concentrated on the tons of sums I had before me.
Finally when the bell rang I jumped up and headed straight to my locker, grabbed my bag and half ran to my car.
I was just about to get in when I felt an arm grab me by the shoulder.
"Julia, please wait," Chase spoke with a shaky note among his words.
"Um. Ok," I nodded, turning to face him but I couldn't meet his deep, green eyes. Instead I stared at his well-carved jaw.
"I'm going to New York this summer for work, I have a job there as a cook in a restaurant uptown. I know you can't come, but I'm just letting you know,"
On our first date, Chase invited me to his house while his parents had gone to California for a long weekend, and he cooked the most amazing meal I had ever eaten. Since then I had begged him to look into the culinary career and he was eager to get started. I was so happy for him, I had almost forgotten what had occurred the day before.
Almost.
"Chase, I'm so glad you got that job, congratulations. Are you going for the whole of summer?"
"Thanks and yeah, I'm happy about it though, I'll call you sometimes," he gave me a fake smile and I instantly knew he wouldn't call.
"Well, um. Good luck, I think I'll get going,"
"Bye Julia," he pecked my cheek and went, I felt nothing.
Just as I was about to pull away a head popped up to the side of mine.
Dark, shiny braids swung as my eyes met a very happy Yasmine. Her beautiful, full lips were arched in a huge smile which showed off her pearly white teeth.
"Oh! Hey Yasmine!" I was kind of glad to see her. She was my only friend apart from Chase in the school and for the past month she had been to visit her family in Congo. She was also the most beautiful girl I knew, her dark skin was so smooth and her eyes were always happy. She gave of a positive vibe.
"Julia! Hey! I can see your keen to get home but I just wanted to ask if you want to make plans for summer,"
"Of course! I'd love to, hey do you want me to give you a lift? I'm not in a hurry at all," I asked politely.
"Actually, yes please," she took my offer and hopped in the passenger seat, carefully placing her bag in between her legs. She was so graceful.
"Everything alright?" She continued.
"Um, not really. I had an argument with Chase but I won't bore you," I laughed as we drove out of the school car park.
"Is that so?" She sighed, looking to me smiling, "I saw Bieber this morning, he was mowing his front lawn, he's back," she informed.
"Yeah I know, I guess that's also something to blame for my unhappiness,"
"You're not glad he's back?" She asked, puzzled.
"Yasmine, after everything he never called once in those two years, he never spoke up, never wrote, nothing. As if I didn't exist!" I huffed.
She sighed and turned to look out of her window, "I guess you're right".
We spent the rest of the ride in silence, and when we reached her house  we simply exchanged our good-bye's and see you soon's before I drove off again.
It was boiling hot when I reached my home, not that it hadn't been hot the whole day.
I glanced towards Justin's house but I couldn't really see anyone so I went into my house.
The air-con was on and I soon felt relaxed.
It was finally Summer break.
