Half way through the class Mrs. Charlotte told the everyone to pair up with a partner to complete a book report on a famous painter. Oh great, already a book report on the first day of school, I thought. Just thinking about partnering up with someone I don't know frightens me. luckily I had Adam, but as I turned around to signal him to work with me I was surprised to hear someone talk to me.

"Hey Dawn, do you want to be my partner?"

I quickly turned around to see who was talking to me. Since I didn't want to be mean, I tried my best to refuse kindly, and said with an awkward smile, "oh um sorry, I already chose a.." but before I could finish the sentence I think I saw Adam talking with other students. He probably already has a partner, I thought.

"You already chose a what? A partner?" She said while slightly frowning.

I focused my attention back over to her, and said,"Uhh nevermind, sure I'd love to be your partner... w..what's your name?" I asked while managing to put on a fake smile. Wishing that I had sat next to Adam.

After saying that she brightened up again, "the name's Megumi but just call me Meg," she said with a big geeky smile. I chuckled and wondered why would someone like her would want to be partners with me? Her completion was a beautiful shade a cocoa brown. She was blessed with beautiful hazel eyes and had big, black curls. Her hair was short like mine, but a bit shorter; like an inch or two difference. She wore a navy blue tank top with a floral cardigan and a pair of light blue jeans. She looked like she could be a popular girl, and I... I looked like I belonged in one of those classes for slow people.

"Wow I love your name, I never met anyone with a name like yours before," I said.

"Right back at cha," she says, and we both laugh. I loved that she didn't judge me or ask any questions about my obvious condition or treat me differently as we talked, but I can see in her eyes that she was indeed burning with curiosity. As time goes by we decided to do our report on Leonardo Da Vinci. Both of us really admired his works, especially the Mona Lisa. It was now two minutes before the bell.

"Ohh man! The bell is about to ring, Dawn let me get your number so we can work on this later." I was stunned, no one has ever asked for my phone number before, so I quickly dug through my bag looking for my phone.

"Agh, where is it!" I grumbled. It was like trying to find a needle in a hey stack. I was so unorganized.

"Hurry, my next class is far away," Meg said hurriedly.

I felt something in my bag that fit the figure of my phone. Aha! Finally, I found it, I thought. But out came my calculator. "Uhh.." I was interrupted by the sound of the school bell. While the bell was still ringing she wrote her number on a sticky note.

"Here, call me," she says smiling cheekily, and then races out of the class to get to her next one. In my hurry, while collecting my notebooks and papers I hadn't realized that the sticky note that I stuck onto one of them had been peeled off by my bag as I shoved them inside, and fell onto the floor. Then I looked around to see if Adam was still in the class, hoping that he'd waited for me, but he was gone. Probably with is new friends, I puffed. Then I myself hurried to my next class. My knee still hurt so I couldn't really run very fast. Which caused me to be late to my next class. I hated the judgmental stares from my classmates.

As the day goes by, I end up early in my seventh period, the last class of the day, because my class before this one was just around the corner. I started to regret picking so many electives, but at the time I just couldn't resist, I wanted to do everything. I'm so pathetic, I groan.

I decided to sit in the front of the class, so I can really focus on what is being taught. Because nowadays math is harder than rocket science.

As I was drifting off into my usual daydreams waiting for everyone to come and for the class to start, I was woken up by a familiar voice.
