Got this idea after talking with my family about the many near-death situations most of us have been in. My sister had meningitis a few years ago and nearly died from it. She came home on Christmas.

Walking into the hospital every day was slowly getting harder for Gunther. Every day it was the same thing. Walk through the doors, greet the nurses he's come to know a little too well, take the elevator to the 4th floor, go to room 412 hoping he'd be awake, be disappointed, sit in the chair near his bed and tell him about what happened that day. Of course, today would be his last day.

As Gunther left the elevator, it was clear something was different. The nurses seemed more happy then usual. One of them, Isabel, had actually looked away giggling as if she knew something he didn't. Ignoring it, Gunther headed straight for his room. The first thing Gunther noticed was that he still wasn't awake, the second was the small box with a card in the chair.

Grabbing the card first, he quickly opened the envelope, chuckling slightly at the card. It was clearly handmade as it was made from printer paper, with a simple drawing of 01 and 02, the Royal Guards from Undertale with the words 'Just like these 2 idiots...' Opening the card, Gunther took a sharp breath. Glued to the inside was a picture of Gunther and him at the park before he got sick with the words, '...an awkward moment brought us together. Happy Birthday.'

Putting the card down, Gunther slowly opened the box. Inside was a slip of paper. Picking it up, he read what was on it. "Look at the bed...?" Gunther muttered before turning his head, dropping the paper at what he saw. "[Y/n]..." Gunther choked out, getting a smile from the male staring at him. "When?" Gunther questioned, sitting in the chair after moving the box and pulling it closer to the bed. "This morning, about five... I wanted to surprise you." [Y/n] said as he reached out and took Gunther's hand. "You idiot... I didn't think you'd wake up." Gunther whispered as he started crying.

[Y/n] sat up, pulling Gunther into a hug. They just sat there, wrapped in each others arms for a few minutes before Gunther pulled away only to grab [Y/n]'s face and pulling him into a kiss. The sound of someone clearing their throat caused the two to break apart. "You brats really shouldn't be doing that just yet. We still have him on antibiotics for a reason." Levi, [Y/n]'s doctor and one of Gunther's close friends stated. Gunther just rolled his eyes. "I've been vaccinated against meningitis, I'm sure I'll be fine." Gunther said staring pointedly at the shorter male. Levi just clicked his tongue as he checked [Y/n]'s vitals.

"You should consider yourself lucky, brat. Never seen Gunther so concerned about anyone before. Next time, don't disappear for a damn week." Levi said before leaving. It was quiet for a moment before [Y/n] spoke. "Sorry about worrying you... I didn't realize how sick I was..." Gunther just snorted as he took [Y/n]'s hand, holding it tightly. "Idiot, I thought I'd lost you for good... remember how we met?" Gunther asked, getting a short laugh from [Y/n]. "How could I forget?"

"Look out!" Someone shouted, causing Gunther to turn just in time to see a young guy on roller skates barely miss him, only to roll straight into a pole. Seeing the male drop, Gunther quickly rushed to him before calling an ambulance once he realized the guy was unconscious. Once the ambulance came and left, Gunther was about to start heading home when he noticed a piece of paper. Picking it up, he unfolded it and noticed a picture of his neighbor holding his daughter in front of their house. On the white of the paper he noticed a few words. 'Our new home, visit soon!' followed by the address. Pocketing the picture, he decided he'd drop it off when he got home.

By the time Gunther got home a good few hours had passed since he decided to help one of his friends. Looking across the street he saw his neighbor just pulling into the drive way. Making sure no cars were coming he quickly walked across the street just as Derek, his neighbor, and the guy from earlier got out of the car. Derek was the first to notice him. "Oh, hey Gunther. What's up?" Derek asked. Gunther pulled the paper from his pocket and handed it to him. "Found this after your friend decided to roll straight into a pole. Figured it was his and thought he'd want it back." Derek chuckled, passing the paper to the guy as he appeared next to him. "Gunther, this is my younger brother, [Y/n]. He's accident prone." "I am not accident pro- ow!" [Y/n] started to argue only to stop after whacking his hand off the driver side mirror. "See?" Derek chuckled.

Gunther snorted, finally getting the others attention. "Oh, hey! You're the guy I almost ran into! Sorry about that, uhm... thanks for calling an ambulance." [Y/n] said, scratching the back of his neck nervously. "Well, it would've been wrong of me to just leave you lying there. Would've been worse if Derek found out. I watch Kara for him on the weekends." Gunther said. [Y/n] just smiled at the other. "Hey, since you're already over here want to watch this idiot for me so I can get Kara? I don't trust him alone." Derek said, getting a loud 'hey' from [Y/n]. Gunther just chuckled, nodding his head. Derek smiled, clapping Gunther's shoulder before leaving. "Dibs on the tv!" [Y/n] shouted as he ran inside after unlocking the door, followed slowly by Gunther.

"It was embarrassing. Telling my brother I ran into a pole trying to avoid a stranger... it was even more embarrassing telling him you asked me out after I actually DID run into you." [Y/n] groaned, hiding his face in his hands getting a laugh from Gunther. "I'm sure I know something more embarrassing." "And what's that?" It was quiet before Gunther spoke again. "Telling your brother I want you to move in with me when you're released." [Y/n] was quiet for a moment before saying, "I know something more embarrassing then that." Gunther raised an eyebrow before [Y/n] continued. "Telling my brother I'm moving in with you when I get out." Gunther just smiled, pulling [Y/n] into another hug.

Now to just tell Gunther how often [Y/n] gets sick.
