3] You guys are funny

Falak

By the time Faaris had to go back, we were all set to go to Lahore together. I locked the house and we headed to Mr. Huzaifa's house. I handed him the keys of the house, and soon we drove to Lahore in Faaris's car. Faaris's acquaintance, who also had to travel from Islamabad to Lahore, was going to drive my car for us.

The journey was fun. We had met once or twice in the six months of our nikkah, but we were comfortable with each other because of the phone calls.

It was about a two and a half hour journey and soon we arrived at Faaris's flat that had been assigned to him by the army. Every time an officer is posted from one place to another, he gets a living accommodation for his family and him. The flat was an E-type flat, meaning from the inside it had the shape of an E. It was really nice and cosy. Faaris had already started to set it up, but it still required some work.

"This is so nice!" I said as I looked around.

"Really?"

"I'm really happy." I replied as I settled onto a couch beside him. He started doing some work on his laptop.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Office work."

"Oh. Well I'm gonna go set my stuff." I said, getting up.

"Yeah, you do that. I would have helped but this is really important. Just tell me if you need anything." He said, not lifting his eyes off the screen.

"Okay." I said and looked at his head. His hair looked so soft. I nervously lifted my hand and ruffled it. He looked up surprised.

"What? I've been wanting to do that for a while now." I said and he laughed, shaking his head at me.

"You can't just do that, woman!" He said, faking anger.

"Well, I just did!" I said and left, laughing.

I set all my clothes in the empty part of the cupboard and all my cosmetics on the dressing table. It wasn't too much work, considering I had no distractions. When I was done, I made tea for both of us and took it to the living room to Faaris. He still had his eyes fixed on the screen.

"Faaris, stop working for a few minutes and take this." I said, putting the cup on the coffee table in front of him.

"Huh? Oh yeah. Sure. Thanks." He said and closed his laptop.

For a while, we both sat silently and drank our tea.

"Falak. I have to tell you some things." Faaris said.

"Yeah?"

"Well, you already know that I don't stay in one place, right? I mean I will be posted to different cities after one or two years. This thing won't change whether I am a captain or a general in sha Allah." He said, looking at me.

"Yes. I know." I replied.

"You need to be ready for it. I won't say it will be easy 'cause we will have to pack all this stuff," he waved his hands around him, "in a limited amount of time and then leave for a new place."

"Yes, Faaris. It'll be hard, I know, but we'll manage in sha Allah." I said, taking a sip of my tea.

"In sha Allah. The other thing is that, right now, I'm posted in a peaceful place, but I can be ordered to go to the operational areas to participate in the fight against terrorists. I obviously can not take you with me there. Then, you'll have to live alone. You'll get a residence and all the facilities of a cantonment." Faaris looked intently at me.
