Kendal drove to the apartment complex and started to pull up to it.
"Um," I muttered, "That might not be the best idea. I mean, Lily and Ethan are going to be here soon enough. That won't end well. Would you mind dropping me off at Corn's house?"
"Uh, sure," she replied, "Where is it?"
I told her the address and she typed it into her phone. She drove along in silence for a while, then finally turned on the radio. A song by Avenged Sevenfold came on. Not my favorite band, but good for now. It's actually Sky's favorite. I bobbed my head up and down along with the music like a boss. Kendal half- smiled at me. I was feeling glum as we pulled up to Corn's house. I didn't want to leave Ernesta all alone to drive the whole entire ten minutes it would take for her to get home. Reluctantly, I waved goodbye and got out of her car.
I went over to Corn's door and opened it. "CORNY CORN CORN, I'M HOME!!!" I yelled. No reply.
Just then, Corn's dad jumped out from behind a corner.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE THIS LATE?" he shrieked at me.
"I DON'T KNOW SIR!" I said and ran back outside, flagging down Kendal's car, which had just started down the road. I ran seriously fast and by the time I realized that she had stopped at a stop sign, I was already crashing into her car. I heard a shriek from inside when she saw me. She got out of her car so I smiled and jumped in and told her to get back in and drive, because Corn's father was going to murder me with nothing but a rusty spoon.
"Oh my," she said after I had told my tale. "That's quite interesting and tragic. Not to mention kind of scary."
"YES I KNOW IT IS TRAGIC. I'm not that scared of him anymore though." I stated blankly.
I looked at Ernesta's beautiful facey thingy and smiled at her downed hair. I took a lock of it again and twirled it.
"Um," she stuttered, "So what now?"
"I don't know." I replied honestly, realizing I'd probably have to go home. "Could you maybe take me to Emery's house." I figured my cousin could save me. So, I told Kendal to take me to Emery's house. I hoped they wouldn't kick me out like Corn's dad did. She stopped in front of their house but waited just in case.
Me walked up to the door and knocked, finding that my aunt answered the door, wearing a face mask and curls in her hair, looking like an old granny in her pajam-jams.
"Get off my lawn, you rotten kids! Oh, it's just you, L. You look so cute! Look how much you've grown my baby!" she exclaimed joyfully, squeezing my cheeks uncomfortably.
"I saw you like, last week." I rolled my eyes at her.
"I know, I just figured it would work well with the costume. I'll get Emery for you, just wait right there, schmoochkins."
She exited the room, leaving me thinking Kendal. Oh crap! Kendal! When my aunt reappeared with Emery, I excused myself to say goodbye to my transportation. I slipped out the door and down the walkway, finally reaching the destination of Kendal's car.
"Did they let you stay?" she asked, rolling down her window.
"Yeah."
"Oh. Okay," She sounded kinda disappointed. "Well, then I guess I better go. See ya later, L"
Oh, God. Why did she have to say my name? It made my stomach die.
"See ya."
I reluctantly turned and walked toward Em's house, where she was waiting at the front entry.
